close button on top, not on bottom

hey

i was wondering if you would consider putting the close button on top (or a right click close/shutdown option).

i run the menu on a laptop which has limited screen real estate. therefore, i need to use auto-hide on the task bar. this means that if the task bar pops up (due to msn or something else) the close button is obscured, then i have to click all the tabs to make sure the task bar will hide, then hope someone doesn't send a new message on msn before i can click the close button. can u either change the positions of the close button or add a right click close option.

cheers

Nope, but...

Nope, it'll never be up top. It's designed to have a similar feel to the start menu used by Windows and a few Linux distros. It goes at the bottom.

That said, a later release will have a zOrder setup to bring it to the foreground. I don't know if that will help taskbar autohide. Most apps like this don't play nicely with taskbar autohide because hardly anyone uses autohide anymore.

If you need to bring the menu to the foreground, you might be able to just click on the logo at the top.

Valid point, but how about

Valid point, but how about his other idea? Nearly all of my "closable" task bar icons have an option to close them from the _right_ click menu. I've just started working with the PortableApps menu and I constantly find myself trying to right click to close it the way I do all of my other icons. Doing something like this would solve this guy's problem and be more natural for others of us.

(Don't get me wrong though... I think the menu looks great... keep the current menu just like it is.)

I agree...

Right click to close works well with taskbar icons on my laptop.

I know

I'd like to do a right-click... but the current Delphi component doesn't support it. I have an alternate way of showing the systray icon which I may switch to in the next release that does right-clicks.

I seek Closure

I keep right clicking to close PortableApps as a matter of course, and it would be great to have this feature, especially as the current close (x) doesn't work on my computer. The reason might be my screen resolution of 1680x1050 with large 120 DPI, but I haven't checked yet.

Beta

Grab the 1.0.2 beta from the Suite page. It fixes the 120dpi issue. Right-click is coming in the 1.1 release.

Pre-Alpha?

How about the source, with bugs and everything? Will that make you happy? (I'm sure it will)
