Using portable application on you HD.

Why I use portable applications on my HD:

They are permanent and stable. Indeed If I reinstall windows xp, All my program will be ready to use, I will not have to lose time to reinstall all my favorites applications. Since the settins are stored to a local directory, I never have to reconfigure preferences and options. Indeed xml or ini configuration are remanent.

They are small and effecient. I can install them on my other HD. My c: drive including windows and program files is only taking 550 meg of space. This allow my pc to have extreme perfomance. Portable application are the tweaker companions, because they allow you to futher speed up your pc.

My nlited xp version with minimal service running and portable application is damn fast. For example my bootup time from bios post screen to a loaded and functionnal windows is only 8 sec ! I had seen pc with a much faster CPU then mine ( I got a AMD barton 2600 ) take as much a 1 min to load because they were bloated with crap.

I am very enthusiast about the future of this site, portable application are a revolution and I think that it could be an edge of free software over it's opponents Licencesed software. Finnaly, my last though: Some free software authors are not aware of this new portable evolution, maybe we should write to them to request portable edition (like DeepBurner Portable Edition) of our favorites software. In many cases it should not be a difficult to adapt them...

I totally agree. I put all

I totally agree.

I put all my apps in zip so people can just run the EXE anyway. One of my friends asked me to make an installer, 'to make it better'. How the ---- can that help make it better!?

surely right click, extract

surely right click, extract to /[zip's name] is a lot more easier than going through a whole setup

i think the only thing is that people like shortcuts on their desktop for some reason
