Wormux (GPL Worms clone)

Program: Wormux (Worms clone)

License: Open Source/GPL

Description: A Worms clone.

Have the mascots of your favorite free softwares battle in the Wormux arena. Using dynamite, grenades, baseball bat and others bazookas,... exterminate your opponent in a 2D toon style scenery and a funny environment.

Each player controls the team of his choice (penguin, gnu, firefox, wilber,...) and must destroy his adversary using more or less casual weapons.

Although a minimum of strategy is required to vanquish, Wormux is pre-eminently a "convivial mass murder" game where, turn by turn, each member of each team attempts to produce a maximum of damage to his opponents.

I think this game would be great to have portable (if possible). I haven't downloaded and installed it yet to see the space taken up.

Yes, Have Some Patience is

Yes, Have Some Patience is working on it. It may not go very far however because the app takes up a huge amount of space.

Yea.

It's pretty huge.

I may offer one version with the PNG's compressed. I'll see how it looks.

If you UPX all the .EXEs and

If you UPX all the .EXEs and .DLLs their space impact gets reduced in half (20MB -> 10 MB). Unknown if this effects the program operating correctly (haven't tried that yet).

Try pngcrush, pngout, OptiPNG on the PNGs.

http://optipng.sourceforge.net/

BTW: I searched for "Wormux" and didn't get any hits except for the other thread dealing with the new software suites John is working on so I made a new thread/request for it.

I tried pngout on the

I tried pngout on the biggest png in the whole install and it only went down by 8%. Point being that there isn't too much space to be saved in the png files. They seem to be pretty well optimized already.

I had an idea (if it's legal under the GPL) to remove a lot of the maps and make them available as a separate download. Another idea could be to code the installer to let the user choose the maps they want to install. That way they have the whole thing, but can install as much or as little of it as they want letting them determine how much space they want to take up on their portable drives.

I'll be putting this on a portable hard drive so space saving isn't as critical for me as some other people.

I'll.

Work on it eventually, could be a few weeks before I start, but I'll work on it, unless there's any other huge drawbacks. Don't worry, I'll work in it, you'll just have to wait a bit though. I wanna improve some other ones I've been working on.

Cool

For some of us using PHD's size isn't too much of an issue, or so I've heard.
