As always, when reporting a bug, there is certain additional information you need to give before we can even begin to address this:
What operating system are you using?
Where is the application installed (full path)?
Is this a virgin install or an upgrade of 4.1.2?
If an upgrade, were you using the PortableApps.com release of Notepad++ Portable or one packaged by someone else?
Sometimes, the impossible can become possible, if you're awesome!
Windows XP, service packs up-to-date
App is in SanDisk 2G USB stick, full path: F:\\programs\Notepad++Portable\Notepad++Portable.exe
Not a virgin install; upgrade from previous version packaged by PortableApps.com
Did you do any customizations to the stylers.xml file at all? That's all I can think of offhand. I've tested the upgrade process and it worked on my 4.1.2 to 4.2 install.
To fix your install, with N++P closed, copy stylers.xml from the Notepad++Portable\App\DefaultData\settings directory to the Notepad++Portable\Data\settings directory overwriting what's already there.

I did an install on the desktop and compared the desktop to the USB stick folder and several files in the stick Data folder were missing (by comparison).
I did a delete of the stick parent folder (Notepad++Portable) and moved the new install desktop folder to the stick. When I started N++P the same error occurred.
However, when I did your recommendation (re: copy stylers.xml ... above) the error went away.
However, after searching for the same error and reading John's answer to gvgerman, I found that stylers.xml was missing from my Notepad++Portable\Data\settings directory. As soon as I copied it there and opened the program, I did not get a Configurator error and the application works fine. Thought you should know!
Windows XP SP2, up-to-date with patches.
Apps in a 1 GB PNY Attache USB drive
Path: F:\\PortableApps\Notepad++Portable\Notepad++Portable.exe
Upgrade from previous version 4.1.2 to 4.2, all from PortableApps.com
I tried to copy the stylers.xml file, in the first time it's deleted when I activated N++ and some other files created, I tried to copy the stylers.xml file again and now the file stay there but the message continue...

No customizations were done to any files.

Too many bridges you can burn
Too many tables you can't turn
Don't wanna live my life in the real world
