(Notepad++ Fundamentally Flawed Rehash By The Same Guy)

Attention John Haller:

Below (under the double dashed lines) is a copy of a paragraph from this Notepad++ bug-tracker web page:

http://sourceforge.net/tracker/index.php?func=detail&aid=1340765&group_i...

That paragraph much too clearly reveals a serious flaw in a program that you are promoting. So you may want to go to that web page and post a comment that flames the writer of that paragraph. For example, you can call him a troll. A quick and simple flame like that will be much easier for you than actually saying anything of any substance on the issue. But unfortunately, after doing your flame, you won't be able to lock the topic on that web page as you did on this web page:

This is a major bug, and it is therefore very disappointing that Don Ho, the program's author, is refusing to fix it. In fact, he says "I won't do it" (scroll down to see his post). Here is a scenario that will show you why it is indeed a major bug. Joe User creates a new document and wishes to save it as a plain-text (".txt" extension) file. So Joe does what just about any Windows user would do: he pulls down the "File" menu and clicks "Save As". Then, as expected, a normal-looking Windows "Save As" dialog box pops up. Joe types a file name in the "File name" field. So far everything is perfectly OK. But now here is where Joe steps into a mess caused by a bug in the Notepad++ program. Continuing to interact with that same "Save As" dialog box, Joe pulls down the "Save as type" menu and clicks "Normal text file (*.txt)", and then Joe clicks the "Save" button. Unfortunately, because of the bug, Joe's file is not saved as a "Normal text file (*.txt)". In fact, it is not saved with any extension at all. In other words, as far as Windows is concerned, it is an unknown file type. To summarize, it is a bug because, when saving a new document, the program does not save as the type selected on the "Save as type" menu. It is a *major* bug because it occurs at a critical step of a common task.

Go away.

It is not a bug. John locked the thread for a reason. Don closed the tracker thread for a reason. Do not bother the PA.com community or the N++ community anymore. Don will not change it and John will continue to distribute a portable version. Type the extension or choose it from the menu or continue to be frustrated; I don't care.

This thread can easily be considered spam and will likely be locked or deleted.

Vintage!

The dropdown actually

The dropdown actually doesn't work, and that was what the original bug report was about (in the SourceForge page) somehow it got hijacked and taken to the idea that not applying a default extension was a bug.

It's really not that hard to type a . followed by 3 letters though, so i don't see it as a big deal.

I can't display the image here but I wanted to do one that said "Do not feed the trolls."

Ryan or John, please lock

Ryan or John, please lock this thread and ban this user.

James, we have been notified of this, and it is not a bug. Also, just because of this inconvenience, we aren't just going to take it off the official repository. Many users love this application.

Locked / Final Warning

This topic is locked as well. Do *NOT* create additional topics for threads that have been locked by moderators. Whether you like it or not, Don Ho, the author of Notepad++ isn't going to fix it, so it will remain as is. You don't like it? Use a different app. No one is forcing you to use Notepad++.

Whining about it here accomplishes nothing except bugging all of us.

Sometimes, the impossible can become possible, if you're awesome!
