I thought everyone knew about Mirc,
What is IRC?
IRC (Internet Relay Chat) is a virtual meeting place where people from all over the world can meet and talk; you'll find the whole diversity of human interests, ideas, and issues here, and you'll be able to participate in group discussions on one of the many thousands of IRC channels, on hundreds of IRC networks, or just talk in private to family or friends, wherever they are in the world.
Funny you should request it.
I just sent a request to them today asking for permission to package it with a launcher.
mIRC is an IRC chat client for those that don't know.

In the mean time you can make your own.
I posted the script source and links to download NSIS.
To generate the launcher all you have to do is drag the .nsi file to the open NSIS window after you download and extract everything.
Then just copy the program files into the App\mirc folder. Source & Links

Apologies for the newb question, but here goes. How do you add the command line parameter "-portable" to mIRC if you are using PAM? Can you add the "-portable" parameter directly to the *.exe somehow? Or should I simply make a folder on my drive with a shortcut that has the "-portable" parameter set and not use PAM?
John, is there any chance we can turn the Development page into a book page? I want to add some subpages, like detailed information of the PAF, current projects and other stuff. I'd do it myself, but I don't want to stuff it up (just in case). The information on the PAF is a little sparse and to find it you have to search the forums.

This new mIRC release may be U3 compatible but the -portable switch it had in the last version is now fixed. Starting mIRC with that switch keeps it from using the registry at all and allows it to read the persons registration information directly from the mIRC.ini file.
I am working to rework my launcher for it now and will post it when finished.
Of course I cannot include mIRC with the launcher so there will also be instructions on how to execute the setup.

That tinny black text in the top right corner that say "search" will send you to a lot of posts with the same question... one of those have the precise/exact instructions to make your own launcher for mIRC.
And, btw, just using -portable in command line, you already have a portable mIRC

There are a huge number of IRC clients out there and some are open source and some are portable (HydraIRC for instance). Although mIRC is (in my experience) the most well known, it is simply another client. Maybe one of the PA team could make a portable client out of a different app without all the legal complications.
And on a final note, Pidgin Portable is also an IRC client... So technically, we're reinventing the wheel out of wood instead of stone...

I'm an IRCOp in an IRC network and need my scripts... you can't build scripts for other clients... or you have to learn scripting all over again to make scripts for other clients...
BTW, ChatZilla can be integrated in your PFirefox extensions... if you don't need scripts...
Uh! another thing, to those that updated to mIRC 6.3, it have a bug, it stays in memory even after closing it, when using -portable, so is not easy to remove your PDrive when you were using mIRC, and ejectscript don't close it, so we need to figure another way to kill it.

I personally prefer mIRC as well.
You can find a launcher script Here
which handles the registry etc.
And another one Here
which simply launches mIRC with the -portable argument
Both need to be compiled with NSIS. You can download it or get my portable version Here

I updated my mIRC Launcher
it now has a custom icon, doesn't need to be compiled, and uses the -rPATH -noreg arguments to point to the \Data folder so its compatible with PAM Backup.

Why not try the Chatzilla Extension for Firefox 2.
Chatzilla
A clean, easy to use and highly extensible Internet Relay Chat (IRC) client.
ChatZilla provides all the usual IRC client features: multiple servers, a built-in list of standard networks, easy searching and sorting of available channels, logging, and DCC chat and file transfers, plus easy customization with JavaScript plug-ins and CSS styling.
Both have been discussed thoroughly on this board. A lot of people have used mIRC for years and have scripted with it so much they don't want to lose what they have done. It's just a matter of preference. I wish people would actually use the search function but I guess that's like pulling teeth from a mule.

Might get some interest in your request if you tell us what Mirc is and why we should care if its portable or not.
Things have got to get better, they can't get worse, or can they?

It`s almost portable by default.
Read the documentation. You just need to start it with -portable and it`s all fine.

Latest MIRC 6.3 includes a new U3 portable version.
Anyway we can get a non U3 version?
God Bless America
You'll need to ask them as we can't modify an app like MIRC without their permission.
Kinda silly of them to do a U3 version without doing a PortableApps.com Format version considering how many more users we have.
Sometimes, the impossible can become possible, if you're awesome!
I was gonna do a portable version of Silverex's build of X-Chat once I get HTTrack completed.

To get it to validate correctly you have to validate your registration while running it with the -portable switch.
