I am making decisions on the structure of a fairly large secure database for a "family registry". I can either:
make the whole database one BIG file. This makes searching for a name much easier using the FIND command as it will automatically search the whole database at one time. This would be my preferred method.
Or
(B) Break up the database into a number of smaller files.
I don’t know what temporary files AbiWord will be creating in the flash memory or how big those files will be relative to the original size of the file being worked on. If the answer is that AbiWord needs at least as much temporary space, or more, than the file being worked on - that could be a problem for the “one big file” methodology.
Can anyone help me here?

Since I didn't get any response to my question I decided to go ahead and buy a 1GB IronKey secure flash drive and figure it out myself.
I will probably still try using abiword, but the lack of response to my question was totally underwhelming. Doesn't give me much confidence that I will get help if I have a problem.

Sorry about that sir, it's just, AbiWord hasn't been updated in a while, and as you can see the "AbiWord Portable Support" forum compared to the "Firefox Portable Support" forum has MUCH fewer posts, so I think people just weren't checking out this forum.
As for the AbiWord part of the question...
You'll be absolutely fine with 1G, AbiWords temp files and such (if any), are all created on the host P.C. I believe, and then cleaned up upon exit.

Signature...What Signature?
AbiWord doesn't handle large files well. As for temporary files, AbiWord will write a backup file to the last save directory every few minutes (depending on the auto save interval), if you enable auto save in the preferences.
