Auto Run

How do I get it to work like a U3 device where it pulls up the menu when inserted? I am using a Windows Xp Home Edition, and a PNY Attache device.

search

in top right corner, in black says: search... (https://portableapps.com/search/node/autorun)

ok, briefly... create an autorun.inf file... search for it...

If a packet hits a pocket on a socket on a port,
and the bus is interrupted as a very last resort,
and the address of the memory makes your floppy disk abort,
then the socket packet pocket has an error to report Biggrin

You don't ..

Autorun of USB-flash-drives does not work on WinXP SP2
without a nag-screen (What do you want to do?)

true...

It's true... you'll have a starting screen with options to choose first...

I think that if you want the same U3 starting system you need to do something like:
- Buy a U3 device... Wink
- Have a U3 device and change the iso (according with smithtech's instructions)
- Install a USB run App in the PC you want to run the PDrive (but then it'll not be really portable, because it'll unloy run in those PC's with the USB running App)

try APO usb autorun

get APO usb autorun, of course you have to install it on every pc you go but it is very small, does not req administrative privileges, it is a single file .exe installer so stick it in your port apps folder so you can run it from PAM menu etc.

smithtech autolauncher thing

Might want to pick up CDMage or something, extract the autolauncher exexutable from the iso, UPX the autolauncher, then pop it into a new iso image.

Just testing the idea out, the autolauncher dropped from 96.0 KB to 56.5 KB. Running the compressed autolauncher from test directory, it appears to still work. ^.^

It won't save any space.

since I believe there is 6 MB of reserved space on the U3 drive for the CD partion, so it does not matter.

As all of ya should know Micro$oft is the Evil Empire, and Windows (a.k.a. Winblows or Windoze) is their greatest general, so please make a difference and install Linux or FreeBSD on yer Windows comp.

You may also use this little

You may also use this little tool: Xtraveller

Download from here

http://www.en.fomm.net/

and put the 72kb .exe into the root-directory of your stick.

When you run Xtraveller for the first time, open "File" - "Add to panel" - "Add file" and direct it to PortableApps.exe (e.g.). Check "Autorun on startup" in the following dialog window, save and you are done.

Each time you plug in your stick to a PC PortableApps (or whichever program you like) will be started automatically from now on. The free version allows up to 5 autostart entries and also supports .bat files.

Autorun
[Autorun]
UseAutoPlay=1
Open=PortableApps\PortableAppsMenu\PortableAppsMenu.exe
Action=Start PortableApps
Icon=PortableApps\PortableAppsMenu\PortableAppsMenu.exe
Label=PortableApps

If this doesn't work try adding

shellexecute=PortableApps\PortableAppsMenu\PortableAppsMenu.exe

to the end of the file. I start my portableapps from a shellexecute command using .bat file that runs a virus scan first.

After making the autorun.inf file open My Computer, right click on your USB drive letter, click on properties, click the autoplay tab, choose mixed content, and select action to perform, take no action. That should work, but if it doesn't then do the same for every autoplay option in the list. This is computer specific, so it should continue to work on whatever computer you did it on, but if you go out of town, or use a different computer than usual at the library, or whatever, you would have to follow these steps on that computer to make it work.

Note the UseAutoPlay=1 in the inf file, after you find the default autorun.inf and put it in the root directory of your USB drive you need to add this to it.

It worked for me.
