Xenon is my portable file manager with local file assocations.

The cool icon is thanks to NeoRame.
Translations were done by MarkoMLM (German) and ptmb (Portuguese).
Note to wine users: Please do not post bug reports. Wine is not a supported OS and will not be. (I won't say the same about linux. )
New Features
Search. Supports OpenOffice documents.
In-Program installation of new icons and "New" files.
Bug: shortcut files do not display icons. if possible, follow the path of the shortcut to get the icon from it's target and apply that icon to the .lnk file.
Bug2: the splash screen is never called to display
Question: Does this manage file extensions and create user defined associations?
Question2: Can you provide a little bit more info in the forum topic about the plugins?

File associations are stored in /Data/settings/assoc.ini. I might create a file extension editor later.
I'll see what I can do about the lnk files.
Err. I guess I never coded the splash screen in. :o

Thanks for the quick reply and updating the info in the topic post. Another suggestion, don't make the plugin installers delete themselves after the plugin is installed.

another bug: when choosing to add a new folder, the box that displays has the title "Rename File/Folder". And clicking "Cancel" or "OK" both create the folder.

First: The file manager is great!!!
Second: it has some bugs:
-Pressing the up button or the go button when the style is in Icons/Smal icons makes the icons move down.
-There's no icon for unknown file types
Beyond that, it is great, and I use it with my PortableApps Menu.
These bugs where found under WINE in Kubuntu 7.04 Feity Fawn.

Well WINE is not supported as I never could figure out how to install it. I do not get those bugs on windows. The icon is blank because there is no icon to put there. I'll have an extension editor in the next version though.

I might be able to help you get Wine working. But there is no GUI to Wine, as it is a command-line app, you would hafta do this in a terminal: wine name-of-.exe-file
in order to run something under Wine.

Getting much better, I'm not having to click like 5 times anymore, thought I do not get icons for unknown file types either.
Copying, pasting, deleting shortcuts all work great, except, when you copy a folder/file and try to paste it in the same directory, you'll be replacing the existing folder, and not creating a "Copy of Whatever" folder/file, this could have been mentioned, I didn't read the full post. As well, copying and pasting on to the desktop NOT in the file manager doesn't work. That one could be tricky.
Edit: Extraction works great! I like the New-> menu.
Edit: Suggestion, the plugins are sweet, but I think it's only looking for Notepad++Portable in a PortableApps/PortableProgram setup, maybe have it search the current drive for Notepad++Portable.exe instead, then launch it.

Signature...What Signature?
Do you mean have the installer search the drive? The actual plugin just uses a setting.
The blank icon for unknown files is intended. What would you propose I do instead?

I am using Sabayon Linux 3.4e with the latest version of Wine. The last one I tested must of been a corrupted download (even though the 7-Zip extractor worked w/o errors) weird huh? The only thing is that renaming does not work but deleting and browsing works fine.

Looks like a great program but I can't get it to work.
When I double click on a file, I get the error message "This file does not have a program associated with it for performing this action. Create an association in the Folder Options control panel."
I’ve played around in the assoc.ini but still can’t get it to work.
Any suggestions?
What is the file type?
If it doesn't have an associated filetype it passes it to explorer. It sounds like it is not associated in explorer either.

I've solved the problem. In the assoc.ini file, the program association command line was
[odt]
icon=oow.ico
#exe=\PortableApps\OpenOfficePortable\OpenOfficePortable.exe
I had to change “xexe” to “exe” in all the command lines.
[odt]
icon=oow.ico
exe=\PortableApps\OpenOfficePortable\OpenOfficePortable.exe
It works now.
One other problem. I can only create new folders called “New Folder”, I can't use any other name. I also can't rename any folders or files.
Nice program MISIIM. Keep up the good work.
I had suggested a program like this a while ago.

This new update with the file extension editor is great. I really like how this is coming along, you're doing awesome work, keep it up.
A Couple Minor Bugs and Suggestion
Bugs-Some of these have been mentioned, I haven't read the full post;
-Back button still take a couple clicks to get it working sometimes. (not as bad as before)
-Back button dissapears sometimes when clicking it and only re-appears when the cursor is removed from the location. (although the area is still clickable [and functional])
-As for the unknown file extensions, I don't know the extent of AutoIt, but maybe have is display a generic blank icon (like windows does) for anything called *.* who's file extension is not already in the file extension list.
Suggestions
-MORE BUTTONS! I like button. Maybe one that goes to the "Computer" directory. And maybe one that goes to the Root of the current drive that Xenon is running from. Maybe some buttons (customizable, like Windows Explorer has) for all those great features you currently have like Refresh, Cut, Copy, Paste, but all like hide able and such, just to make it nicer for most users.
-Although it's not the worlds greatest file manager (tho I think it has the nicest GUI, take a general look at Windows Explorer for features and such. I'm sure you have been, but it's just what many users are used to, and I think this will have (and SHOULD) have on good chance to make PortableApps.com if you add some of the popular (and common) features of Explorer.
-Icon, I think you should hire someone to make a nice (and creative) icon. I think NeoRame would be a good person to pick, he's good at computer art, very good. I dunno if you'de wanna ask him, but I think he would be a good pick. But you were very creative with the name I will say, not something *r*ppy like most common ones "Windows File Explorer", "XPlorer", "Xplorer", Xplorer2", "XYPlorer" and such, who most of also use Explorers icons. You don't, and good to you!
Some Comfort
It's coming along really well, 6-Zip is also working great now, I'm using this on my drive, and maybe soon my PC. Keep up the AWESOME work. Like, AWESOME.

Works fine, so far. The file association editor is great.
But some problems with plugins:
- Hash PI opens it's box, but all 5 lines are blank!?
- NPP PI is searching the Notepad++Portable.exe relative to the plugins path but not to the drives root. So I get an error message like this:
S:\PortableApps\XenonPortable\App\xenon\plugins\PortableApps\Notepad++Portable\Notepad++Portable.exe
not found ...
followed by a dialog box with some NSIS messages.

After updating to 1.2.3 the PI are still buggy:
- Hash PI still shows only 5 blank lines
- NPP PI finds the portable.exe now, but doesn't find files, that are not in the drives root. Ie. opening 'S:\autorun.bat' or so works, but opening 'S:\YadaByte\YadaDisk\readme.htm' fails and prompts 'S:\readme.htm not found, create it?'.
Another suggestion: It would be nice to have an option to change toolbar icon size to 16 or to hide the toolbar at all. 32px is too heavy (looks like '98).
ZAP
Hash: This was removed due to the UDF stopped working.
NPP: I found the issue.
Toolbar: How would 24 be?

24? Fine, let's see ...
ZAP
Okay, simply put.
This file manager is starting to kick ass.
You did the toolbar, with the Computer and Home icons as well, got NeoRame to make an icon, and took care of the unknown file situation. And a Forward Button, by Golly, I LOVE IT! I'll probably make it my default file manager now.
Too itsy bitsy suggestions, not to be an *ss.
For the icons on file association, since it will accept anything under the 'icons' folder, I suggest one of two things.
Place a note below the icon box that says "Custom Icons can be placed in App\xenon\icons" or, have a "Browse for custom icon" selection. Just so it's easier for users who think they're stuck with the icons there are.
And this one, I really don't care about, but it's just a suggestion.
For the toolbar icons, this was probably in thought anyways, but maybe have inactive state icons, a regular icon, a hover icon, and a pressed icon. I know that's a bit of work, but it could be easy if you find someone who's got time to dedicate. It's just a suggestion.
But...
AWESOME WORK! THIS IS SICK! THANKS!
Edit: Ooo, just noticed hover tips on the icons, nice!
