How do I extract ROMs from a GBA cartridge?- Only will do it if it is legal.

1st of all is it legal in the USA? I am only gonna do this on mine, since I wanna preserve my cherished games and memories (I doubt the cartridges will last forever! +I wanna give the ROMS and cartridges to my kids to enjoy years from know [legally]).

2nd how do I do it?

3rd whats the odds of ****** up the cartridge?

4th after extraction or copying will the cartridge still be playable?

Also is it legal to download ROMs of games that I already own? I live in the USA.

Well

First of all you need a flash cart. It's pretty much a flash drive for a gameboy but for roms Wink secondly in the flash cart kit there is a tool that will allow you to copy roms from current games or upload roms from your computer to your flash cart. thats all I know really my best friend has one but I never used one as I don't have a gba just snes and n64 and an Xbox with Xbox Linux Wink

Okay where do I obtain such flash kits

and flash carts and any chance I can obtain them at a brick and mortar retailer (a tangible, non-online store).

Why not

My parents don't shop online. I keep telling them to make a credit card for online purchases but don't listen, I think they are spoiled sports (ID theft is scary though!)!

Prepaid

Go to your local Walmart or Fredmyer (or similar place) and buy a Visa or Mastercard Gift card. The work like any other Credit Card. They have preset amounts from 20 to like 500 dollars. So buy a card and then use that card online. If someone steals your "identity" all they get is the balance on the card. They get no information on you.

Downloading ROM's

It IS legal to download ROM images if you own the original game. When you bought the game you were entitled all of the rights to do what ever you want with the program included. Happy Downloading!
Just Google "'Game System Name' Roms" and you also must download an emulator which are readliy available online.

It says in the manuals

that making copies of games, or modifing code, or selling the copied rom is illegal. the license included with the game is only for use on the system it was designed for. Check the manuals! It is true! If they wanted it to be on PCs, then that is what they would have programmed it for.
Don't get mad, because it is true.
I am pretty sure someone has mentioned the legality of this, with evidence for it. (at least for the U.S.).

Yeah, cept I am not doing this 4 profit

I would give the ROMs to my kids with the original media. Plus I bought the game and I should do whatever the hell I want with it (well cept make profit). Plus I don;t give a crap about the warranty.

I was only

giving a warning to those that want to try to sell it for profit.

Also, I belive I should be able to (and I quote) "do whatever the hell I want with it [refering to games] (well cept make profit)". I just don't like to void my warranties because the company might replace my copy of a game for free (unless it's really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really old).

Kay, besides the warranties on most of my GBA games have already

expired. But I am doing this just 4 backup purposes.

Ebay is a good alternative

Although its late but you really cant, but can get it off any Rom Sharing sites. One of my friend got it from ebay which is also a good alternative. Hope this helps.

[EDIT] link removed - we do not permit the sharing of illegal rom sharing sites - mod GC

Try this

A multiboot cable or equivalent. The GBA can boot code sent to its link port, naturally you can then use the GBA to send data back. Quite slow for games but not that bad.
