I'm new to Portable Apps & U3 & have some questions around security for Portable Apps. I like the security in U3 but want to can it & move completely to Portable Apps. Does anyone know of any plans to build security into Portable Apps or can anyone recommend a good piece of security software for securing folders on my USB key?

U3 Security is weak. I've heard it can be bypassed just by booting the computer while the drive is inserted.

unless who ever does the re-boot
knew and entered the password before re-booting ..
A lot of "normal" flash-drives support secure (or "private")partitions .
Check the manufacturers website for the needed software or try
"LockItEasy" (free, not Open Source) from Cososys .
Note that you need admin-rights to mount the private partition ...
Actually it was tested, somewhere in the forums here the results were posted. If the U3 drive was connected, the user had opened the password protected portion of it, then restarted the computer without first ejecting the drive, in several cases, full access to the drive was available after the reboot.

can u also access the the password protect partition if the computer doesn't support U3(on linux maybe)?

you can acsess the storage after rebooting is because the drive was never ejected so u3 keeps it in the last state. just like if you inserted the drive, rebooted without going through u3PASS and tried to acsess the storage, you wouldent be able to.
it is a simple last state system.
