Anybody is working on Accounting software for portable menue
What do you mean, 'Accounting Software'? Please provide more information. What functionality are you looking for? GL, AP, AR, PR, Expenses, Inventory, etc.?
Are you asking for a expense report tracking system, a checkbook, a Quicken/GnuCash clone, or perhaps, some small enterprise system? Large scale systems like PeopleSoft and Oracle just use web browsers to access a system somewhere else. It is the connectivity that is more important than portability.
I know there is a thread requesting GnuCash around here in the forums, but I don't remember if anyone is currently working on it. Try the 'Search' button in the upper right to see what has already been discussed.
Im currently working on GNUCASH and it will be ready within the next few days (hopefuly)
I am sorry for incomplete information, Accounting means its part of book keeping, all income, expenses, debtor, creditor, balance sheet, trial balance, individual account printing...etc...
Many accounting packages are available commercially but.. nothing is portable.
I'm gonna setup my books in an open office spread sheet.

If a packet hits a pocket on a socket on a port,
and the bus is interrupted as a very last resort,
and the address of the memory makes your floppy disk abort,
then the socket packet pocket has an error to report
...if you want folks here to help you.
The primary distinction you have not YET drawn here is, are you looking for
1) PERSONAL finance/accounting software (a la "Quicken"),
or are you looking for
2) BIDNESS accounting software (a la "Quickbooks")
State your purpose, and then let the discussion/debate begin in earnest...

We have developed and been shipping a portable veriosn of TurboCASH Accoutngin for some time now. This is a full systems capable of expanding and interfacing to full multi user accoutning. Happy to deal with anyone that is interested firstname.lastname@example.org
I would dearly love to see a full acocutnign package included on portbale apps. TurboCASH is a 30 Mb app.
Philip Copeman, TurboCASH Accounting
How about taking an existing app like Simply Accounting or QuickBooks and making it portable, can it be done?
Quicken/Quickbooks could not legally be made portable from license inssues.
I am going to guess that Simply Accounting could not for similar reasons, as I can only download a free trial.
PA.c works with open source software currently.
Limits are for people with no imagination.
I'm looking for some type of form that I can log monthly expense
If you search this site, you will very quickly find rayven01's portable version of GNUcash. This is full-featured home and small business accounting software. Stable, well supported and works extremely well. Give it a test drive.
Check out this page www.osalt.com
It is full of open-source software alternatives to many commercial applications. Then check to see if they already make the software portable.
Is there anyone on this thread from Portable Apps?
I have a working copy of TurboCASH Accounting as a Portable App (been out for a year) . TurboCASH is GPL Open Source, Free. I already a few hundred users of TurboCASH Portable. TurboCASH is not a cheque book manager. It is a full blown accounting package like Quickbooks with debtors, inventory and tax returns, working in 25 languages. Already running in a portable version.
My question is what is it that has to be done to get this included as a featured product on this site?
You can download the TurboCASH Portable App here:
No, seriously, there aren't any of the PortableApps.com team here in this particular thread, just users/fans.
For my part and also on behalf of our resident troll, I am sorry that your thread got hijacked, but that was pretty much your best route, since John T. Haller, the main guy here, was talking to you, more or less, until he got distracted.
jamcomm is right, there is a backlog, but he only told half the story, and nobody thought to tell you the other half. The other half is that many apps in the backlog are in testing. They aren't quite ready for prime time. Some are, most aren't.
First thing you gotta do, and anybody up to JTH will tell you this, the app has to be in .PAF.EXE format. .PAF.EXE is just a specification, it's not a new format of executable file. (As you know, Windows reads filenames right to left, and after that first period, the rest is the filename. An extension can't contain a period. It's like an .mp3.vbs file. You see mp3 so you think music, but it's really a script.) Others can say it better, but all the program's save data (e.g. config) has to be in a separate folder (Data), and the help and source must be in a separate folder (Other). Also the app itself is two levels down from its root (app\TurboCASH in your case), and the root has a launcher (e.g. TurboCASHPortable.exe). The app can't be "just portable".
Second, it's gotta be on a host anyone can download from. I looked at your site, you want people to register on your site and then apply for an unlock code. Very few people here are gonna test it under those conditions. Consider building one not only under the PAF specifications, but one that "just works", no key needed. Maybe put a 30-day timer on it or something, I don't know. If it's free, why do any of that at all? But that's just me, I'm not sure what you're going for.
Other tips: First, once you post the first test version, watch the topic. Watch it like a hawk. Someone has a problem, jump all over it and get it fixed. They love that. Second, PA.com already hosts GNUCash. I don't know anything about it or your app, but elaborate on how it's different. This site does have apps that do the same thing, but usually only if there's a good reason. AbiWord is offered because maybe somebody wants a word processor, but not all of OpenOffice. (My 16GB flash drive has both.)
Pretty sure only JTH can post apps to the site. New/Updated app posts come from others, but I'm pretty sure he's gotta get the ball rolling. Get up with him via email or stick to the other topic. And best of luck to you.
Check portable version of Alzex Personal Finance: http://www.alzex.com/download/usb-version.html, version for PAF drive also available.
i see you have already made a PAF package.
what is the license ?
am i right in thinking you have 3 licenses, viz free, trial/limited or commercial ?
what exactly is the free one ? see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Free_software_license
There are two versions: Pro (paid) and Personal Finance Free. Here is pro vs free comparison table: http://www.alzex.com/download/free-version.html
the version in PAF format is trial ware.
i will not even bother installing it
Free version also available: http://www.alzex.com/downloads/PersonalFinances.paf.exe
The file structure is not in PA format nor the installer. You have modified the installer, removed any of the PA branding do you have permission to do so? The help file does not link to normal format of PA and the PA files? I would suggest you take a look at the installer guidelines?
“Be who you are and say what you feel because those who mind don't matter and those who matter don't mind.” Dr. Seuss
Looks like a very quick and dirty fix to address the license issue which he should have answered when asked and still hasn't
I'm going to take a look at the free version from a non-portable finance application POV to see if it is worth something, just in case, my guess is that the free version is just an advert
no ISO dates, failure for me (but that is personal)
Lightweight personal accounting (i.e. no double entry or rigour to see if things add up)
Possibly interesting but we'll probably never know as author is making it trial ware deliberately.
Comparison to other PA finance + accounting apps :
GnuCash (senior PA accounts) don't bother if gnc is your favourite
Finance Explorer Portable: probably better but limited by the provider's foolishness (no crit of Finance Explorer, it is what it is)
Money Manager Ex Portable: probably the most interesting project if you're not interested in accounting so much as personal finance, I like and watch this project outside of PA too, it is active.
If Alzex would like myself and other people to take an interest in his version of accounting he needs to drop some barriers, IMO
It was ever thus.
I made package many years ago and now simple update main executable. Sure there are lots of changes in guidelines was made since that time.
Trial versions are generally deprecated, if there is a trial version on PA I don't know about it.
It shows that you have not thought about PA much
If you want people to use your software you should make some more facilities available for free.
Otherwise you can forget about PA as an advertising forum.
I'll update package, thank you. BTW can't find how to submit software to PA catalog.
Normally you go through a process of saying hello an then
allow import in free is a suggestion, without this i can't test and no-one / only a few will commit unless they are new to money, if you want teenagers that is your business
understand I am testing for others
you must find your unique point yourself, Alex
Probably you right. I'll enable import in future releases.
I pack it using latest version of PortableApps.com Installer and enable import from qif, ofx and csv files. Some code optimizations made too. Update download page: http://www.alzex.com/download/free-accounting-software.html
Now I should create thread in Beta testing forum, and then add post here: https://portableapps.com/node/11772 (Apps Ready For Official Release). Am I right?
I have had a quick look and it seems much better as a portable app, very good idea to include the demo data.
I will check some more this weekend, but it is looking like a good addition to PA
edit: except everything useful is missing
Next move is Development / Beta testing, read the sticky post, as I haven't done regshot checks, etc. and most people that test things won't have been watching this thread.
I'm not getting this, the app as presented doesn't, to my mind, provide enough to be useful. What is the point of accounting software without any reports? Do you really expect people to invest time in your accounting programme, get nothing in return by way of output *and* send you some money just in case?
I think you need to look at the competition before making your App available in Beta testing
