yeah its open source
http://secondlife.com/developers/opensource/licenses
its gonna take a couple weeks to have them verify the project though because
its requesting a takeover of an abandoned project
Is it available to download anywhere else temporarily?
I have not touched SL in so long I can barely remember my name but I wanna try this out.

there it is. When you start it up, it will probably say that you need to update it. click yes and install it to the exact same folder where you extracted it. It'll say you already have version whatever. Install anyway. works good
Awesome, I'll give it a shot and see how it goes.

okay then. and yes. I made the splash screen.
I have reached the download limit try http://www.mediafire.com
I've just tried it, and after the installer ran my desktop icon pointed to the portable version instead of the desktop version.

It looks great, and I planned to use it on a shared PC. One hassle... which is NOT with your package! The update process (which is needed before you play) requires admin privileges... which I don't have on university PCs.
So, much like my last girlfriend, you can unzip it... but you can't play with it.
The exquisite college my Dad works at lets the students use admin privs, even though it seems nobody dares to install anything though. It just seems funny this college lets the students use admin privs and most others don't.

My office is thinking about doing it for our service program, as a part of the university that I work for, but I didn't want to blow time on it. I guess now I should ... do work that is.

Don't be an uberPr∅. They are stinky.
buttnose: try downloading the newest install and install it over the portable version
by the way has anyone else had problems with this? It won't start from my iPod but it will if its on my desktop. Messed.
why wont the updater work on a limited account?
Please search before posting. ~Thanks
cause in order to update it downloads the newest version then installs it. you have to update on another computer or manually download the newest version and extract it using something like universal extractor.
hey when is the secondlife portable becoming official?
Please search before posting. ~Thanks
It's not part of the development here, but John it could possibly added, but currently I don't believe it's under development for PortableApps.com

Wow, I just noticed I still had a signature, that's enough of that.
if it does get developed for portableapps is there anyway to find out when it's available? i don't even care if it's only in beta stage i'd download it for sure(as long as it doesn't require admin access since my computer is down :().
There's a portable version of second life over here https://portableapps.com/node/15340
It's not packaged as a .paf but it is portable.
There is an open source client for Second Life now called "SnowGlobe" that ought to be .paf ified
