Downloaded and installed the standard PortableApps Suite (and -- to ALL you developers: THANK YOU!) on a freshly formatted (therefore, blank) SanDisk Cruzer.
Anyway, got a bunch of error messages upon installation about the install app not being able to create certain output files.
Safely removed the USB key and reinserted it. Besides the OpenOffice apps, all the other once seem to be working okay.
When trying to access any of the OpenOffice apps, I get the message saying: "The program cannot be started. The service manager is not available. Start setup application to repair the installation from CD, or the folder containing the installation packages.
Any advice would be tremendously appreciated -- thank you.

1. Try installing OOP locally first and ensure it works.
2. In either case, be sure to install to X:\PortableApps\OpenOfficePortable Long directory paths or directories with odd characters (anything besides letters and numbers) can cause issues with OO itself.

1. Installed OOP in my C:\TEMP directory and it appears that it works fine.
2. On my USB device, the path is indeed the default path: J:\PortableApps\OpenOfficePortable
Try it at C:\PortableApps\OpenOfficePortable. If it works there but fails when copied to the device, there is something wrong with your device or USB ports and it's beyond what we can assist you with.
One other possibility, if you format your device as NTFS, it can cause permissions issues unless you convert it with the no permissions switch. But I doubt that's the problem.

I don't know how to set the "non-permissions switch."
But after I reformatted the drive with FAT32 and 4096 bytes allocation space, the new installation worked like advertised.
