Firefox - Version Confirmation (Password Saving) - Sorted, Thanks

I am seeing differences in behaviour between the "normal" install on my laptop and my PFF install on my USB drive.
Namely, my PFF is refusing to save passwords for sites.
I found an entry on mozilla support that stated there was a bug that was fixed in 2.0.0.3 (I think) so that led me to check versions.
On my laptop help about shows "version 2.0.0.6"
On my USB help about shows "version 2.0"
However on USB in Tools | Options | Advanced | Update History is states that 2.0.0.6 was successfully installed.

Any ideas?

Drill down to

Drill down to ..\FirefoxPortable\App\firefox and right click on firefox.exe -> Properties -> Select the Version tab -> Product Version

PFF isn't saving passwords most likely because that feature is turned off by default. Check Tools -> Options -> Security

Thanks

The version of the exe is 2.0.0.6

I have already enabled the saving of passwords.

I'm loosing what's left of my hair with this one!

Different things

You have two separate issues.

Password issue:
Check to make sure your exception list in Tools>Security does not have the sites on it your are trying to save passwords for. This is where urls are collected when you click "never for this site" when FF rpomts to save passwords.

Version issue:
There have been at least two launcher updates since 2.0 Beta. I would back up your profile and reinstall FFP from here. That will make sure you have the latest version of both the launcher and FF. This might possibly solve your password issue if it is caused by a corrupted update.

OK, I had already checked

OK, I had already checked the exceptions list, this was empty.
I rechecked it, still empty.

I have installed the latest version as advised and this is displaying the same behaviour.

At first I thought it was just our extranet but I tested it on this site and it did not prompt me to remember the password for here !!!

Any ideas?

Sounds like a FF not FFPE problem.

Does not sound like a FF Portable problem.

See if this article helps:

Or check the Mozilla forums. http://forums.mozillazine.org/

Thanks

I had already read the first article, that's what prompted me to check my versions.

I was literally just in mozillazine, and it prompted me to save my user/password, it still will not prompt for this site or my companies extranet......

SORTED !!!!

OK found the problem.

Some sites were listed in the file signons2.txt in my profile but the passwords were not listed when I chose to show passwords.

I renamed this file while FF was closed, restart PFF, it creates a new blank file (all my passwords are gone) and it now prompts me to save !

Thanks for all your help !

Wasn't going there yet.

I am glad you found a solution. I was going to suggest that, but I though you wanted to save your other passwords.

Thanks

I didn't have that many passwords saved in there yet anyway, it wouldn't let me save the important ones !

Thanks for your prompt responses.
