Pidgin: Portable Gaim HKCU Startup Error

Running Windows 2k Pro with Portable Gaim. I've set the
portablegaim.exe file to run at current user startup
(HKCU/Software/Microsoft/Windows/CurrentVersion/Run). I
recieve an error labeled "settings was not found.
Please check your configuration." However, if I run
PortableGaim again, it loads sucessful. It also works
if I link it to another link to portablegaim; *.ink.

Try This Instead

I've noticed the same thing with 1.5 and the 2.x betas. As a workaround, you can place a shortcut to PortableGaim.exe in your startup folder.

Oh -- now I understand why.

Gaim is setting itself to run at startup, instead of the Portable Gaim executable. Since Gaim can't find any settings on your computer where it expects them, it gives an error.

You have to use PortableGaim.exe for it to work.

I've fixed it by copying the portable gaim .gaim settings file to documents and settings\usrname, and then just launching the regular gaim.
