You could probably do your own.

Here are instructions for FFPE: https://portableapps.com/support/firefox_portable#cd

You could probably do the same thing for the entire suite, but your documents would be useless unless you were using a cd-rw.

Also updating app versions would be a nightmare.

It would be great if John made the Suite available as an

ISO image, so u can just easily burn the suite to the disc and play around with it. But u should not attempt this with a non RW disc.

I don't think I've ever seen an ISO for the CD-RW filesystem. I know you can burn a standard ISO to an RW disc, but what you get is a read-only CD, though you can erase it and burn another image to the same disc, or erase it and use it with a CD-RW filesystem.

There is no CD-RW filesustem... There is the CDFS filesystem on the disks that allow them to work and store data. The thing that allows you to continue to modify a CDRW is whether the session has been finalized and the disk locked. an ISO is a locked CDFS partition. Most [older] computers can't read a CDRW that has not been finalized/locked. I am sure most modern computers do not have this issue.

Personally, I have never really liked using a CDRW as a updatable media... If i have to do something in which the file will be updated I will use a USB device of some sort. If I use a CDRW, it is in the fashion of a temp deisk to burn a ISO to to test before I waste a CDR or as an archival media. CDRW can allow you to overwrite the data when the backup is no longer required.

You have the right to remain silent. Anything you do or say will be exaggerated or mis-quoted and used against you.

no flash drives?

That's strange - some of the schools around here require students to have a USB flash drive.

I guess a question is what the prohibition is for. If the idea is that they don't want you running illicit programs on the school computer, then you'd probably get into trouble if you were caught running these. A better strategy would be to get them to add these to the list of programs you're allowed to use.

If you are allowed to, say, save your data to a diskette, I suppose it might be possible to come up with a portable app version that is able to write its files to the diskette. Some of these might even fit onto a diskette.

Most of these programs want to write in the PortableApps.com directory structure. So a read-only CDrom would not be a terribly great alternative. I suppose you could copy the apps to your hard drive and try running them from there.

The main question is how would you take your data with you? If you can't save to a diskette or USB flash drive, what can you do? If that isn't a problem, then just copy the app to the hard drive and use it, leaving your data in whatever directory you're allowed to use.

It might be that one could think about doing something like tunneling through the school's firewall with SSH (portable putty?) to get or save personal data to another machine. But if the school is paranoid about what it allows on its machines, that could also get into trouble...

There is a LiveCD Linux distro whose name escapes me at the moment that uses the standard CDrom filesystem to save personal data. It relies on Angel not being very big and (b) the standard way of adding additional data to a CDrom that is not "closed". You can save data from dozens of uses before its capacity is exceeded. That might be an approach, but it would likely require a custom way to write data to the CDrom.

It's Puppy

Puppy Linux is a distribution that has 100 and something Mb (the last time I've seen it) It saves all the data on a file called pup3.fs (if I am correct) on the cd or the host computer (by request) when turning off from the live cd.

also...

its not like i need to save to the disk itself and i dont update all that much. all i really want is to be able to use the apps at my school without being yelled at for using flash, + i generally save to an internet storage account to i can get my docs anywhere with internet. i know that a cd edition seems like a stretch but i would like it to happen. ill see what i can do with the suite and the apps i have using the instructions that wsm23 found.

There is no such thing as a CD-RW file-system. It's just the regular CD-R file-system that has the ability to erase the disk and start over again.

In fact

It's not even called the CD-R file system. I can't remember the exact name off the top of my head, but I'll check later.
