BibusBiblio

Bibus-Biblio is an excellent opensource bibliography program (http://bibus-biblio.sourceforge.net/) which can run from a usb key. It works very well from the usb but does leave stuff behind in the registry. It would be great to be able to use this in a truly portable way without the registry. It also works well inserting citations into OOo or MsWord but would be even better if it would work with portable OOo on the usb. I wonder if anyone has any experience with this program on usb or any idea if it is possible to overcome these two issues.

thanks

Portable Bibus?

I second this request. Bibliography programs are essential for academic users (researchers at universities, etc.). Help concerning this issue would be very much appreciated. I already use PortableOpenOffice.org and would be great to see both apps working together on my usb thumbdrive.
Oh, and John, thank you for such a wonderful software.

For whoever doesn't know

For whoever doesn't know what it is:

Registry Rapper lets you keep registry settings on the drive -- basically letting you portable-ize any apps using registry entries.

BTW

I usually don't include links because:

  1. I was typing on my PSP which is a hassle.
  2. A simple Google for "reg rapper" works wonders.

Has anyone sorted this out?

Having a Portable Bibus would complete my portable apping experience!! Has anyone been able to resolve the difficulties? Is it difficult/complicated to set up??

No success as yet

but sure would be nice - seems it should be possible within the program config - if you know anything about python and wxPython wxConfig Class you may be able to help - see the thread on the Bibus site - http://sourceforge.net/forum/forum.php?thread_id=1479430&forum_id=380177

This thread is in regard to the registry vs. a config file - The issue of being able to use with portable OOo is further compounded as I understand the pyuno bridge (?) has been removed in the portable version to reduce the size. - no doubt there would be other probs greater than this!

Completely devoid of programming skills

Sorry. Would love to help but I'm kind of an end user. My first encounter with python was when I installed Bibus!!

Still a novice but . . .

Found this program XAMPP - http://www.apachefriends.org/en/xampp.html

Would this solve the registry problems with running Bibus portably??

Again, apologise for my ignorance.

I don't think so

Bibus is an executable not a .py script. (I think)
