Greetings,

I got the automated update form Firefox portable and after it was complete all my add ons are no longer working. It looks like I will ahve to re-install them all by hand.

Anyone else seen this problem?

Anyone know how to automate a recovery or to aviod the problem in the forst place?

It's called a backup.

You of course did one before you updated to a new version right?

You might get away with deleting the extensions.rdf file in \PortableApps\FirefoxPortable\Data\profile but I could not guarantee it.

backups? we don't need no backups... oh wait

I have a backup that is about 72 hours old - but copying the backup over the existing folder did not restore my addons (don't know why).

I was able to recover all the addons I decided to keep within 20 minutes so its not a huge problem but I am curious why it happend.

Same thing happened to me...

this happened to me too!...

as soon as I upgraded FF all of my extensions are gone!... I did the same thing by copying the backup folder but nothing happened. Except for my bookmarks (thankfully!)all other extensions have disappeared. I checked my Add-on menu, all the extensions are there but not functioning.

can any one help?

Easy solution.

Reinstall FFPE from here. Copy your backup folder into your profile.

In place upgrades are possible, but are not supported by PA.com This seems more like a FF than a FFPE issue.

Hä?

"In place upgrades are possible, but are not supported by PA.com"
Whaddaya mean?
I thought inplace upgrades mean that you can install a new version right over the old one without losing settings, ergo are they supported by Papps.com.

They only occur with

mozillas Apps and are partly supported.
Sometimes a new version has new features requiring an improved launcher. Thats when auto updates arent good.
Other that that they work.

autoupdates are supposed to be supported

according to https://portableapps.com/forums/support/firefox_portable/faq#1

i am having an issue with the 2.0.0.7 autoupdate, however (and perhaps with earlier revisions too?). when the autoupdate completes, it changes my registry settings. the firefox registry info now points to my portable install! when i go to "add/remove programs" and try to uninstall, the uninstall path is pointing to the portable version. also, anything that looks for firefox paths in the registry will get the path to the portable edition. this is not good Sad

I just noticed that too.

I simply reinstalled Firefox 2.0.0.7 on my desktop over the existing installation and that seems to have corrected the problem. I would suggest waiting for the next FirefoxPE release though for anyone who is having difficulties. I've noticed that my portable installation likes to crash while running Shockwave now (after the autoupdate). Strange, but not a big problem. I'm going to switch back to 2.0.0.6 for a while.

I unfortunately requested the update ...

and the newly updated "FF" (FF 2.0.0.7 update to FFPE 2.0.0.6) would no longer connect to the web.

Situation:
----------
FFPE 2.0.0.6 running properly
Help > Check for Updates... ; selected Download & Install Now
Installer did its' thing ....
FF/FFPE 2.0.0.7 reopened and failed to connect to web (proxy settings were correct)
Tools > Add ons still showed all previously installed extensions

Info:
-----
Windows XP, service packs up-to-date
Dell D600 Latitude notebook

Recovery:
---------
backed-up profile folder (profile folder from the "updated" FF directory)
Fresh install of FFPE 2.0.0.6
placed back-up profile folder into fresh install directory
FFPE 2.0.0.6 running properly

[Edit] Additional info:
After another clean install of FFPE 2.0.0.6 on the desktop, a request for the 2.0.0.7 update was made. After the restart, the updated 2.0.0.7 FF program would not connect to the web (same symptoms as above), so there does not appear to be a conflict w/ extensions in anyway that is impacting the up-grade directly from Mozilla.

Not an issue for me.

Updated via automatic updates last night.

No issues at all. it was the quickest update I have had.

I still fail to believe it is not an extension or pc issue.

My config.

That's strange

Because I heard that Firefox 2.0.0.7 only updates his compatibility with the Quicktime plug-in. It should work fine. Delete "extensions.rdf" and search on the extensions folder for any file that is not a folder and delete it.

Is this belief that you need

Is this belief that you need to back up an application on a flash drive before updating it conventional wisdom around these parts? Do you back up Word and IE before you update them? Would you laugh at anybody who instructed you to do so?

If you want to make sure your extensions, bookmarks, passwords, settings, etc. are preserved then YES you should back up before you update anything. If you lose anything like that after you refused to backup then it is your ODF.

Portable App Menu provides a simple easy and effective way to backup all of your PortableApp.com items. https://portableapps.com/suite

A word about Word

I went from Word 2000 to Word 2003, none of my personalized settings transferred to the new version.

I updated from IE6 to IE7, none of my bookmarks transferred over.

So, yes, I would back up my data, settings, and even the entire old version of the program before updating Word and IE.

Have an Awesome Day!

All of my stuff is still

All of my stuff is still there, my only issue is that when it installed the update it also installed into my add//remove programs in fact most of my programs in my HD are portable because it saves memory and system space,; and are much easier to delete>

But the problem eveyone is having seems to be becuase the update is for regular FireFox and not the portable edition so when the great folks here at portabelapps.com release the 2.0.0.7 FireFox Port everything will be okay... they still seem to have only 2.0.0.6 on the site

and if you guys didnt know you can redownload another copy of firefox of this site, and then selectabley copy over different parts and it will run fine. so look what is different and then copy over firefox.exe and anything tht is labeled with 2.0.0.7 from the .06 version.

Thanks,
*hope portableapps.com will release the portable 2.0.0.7 soon*
