I created a RAM disk and installed Portable Firefox onto it with fasterfox loaded and tried the prefetching. I am blown away by the increase in speed. I tried this in the past with non-portable FF but this is much better!
What a great use of my previously unused RAM! You can also set a ramdisk to not create an image upon shutdown, thus making all of your surfing dissapear. You have to copy over Portable FF every time in that case, but it only takes a few seconds.

And your method and and/or commands to create a RAM disk were what?

Help control the rugrat population -- have yourself spayed or neutered!
I thought the same...
Would be nice to try...

If I remember correctly there are RAM-drive programs
that can "auto-import" a image, sparing you the trouble of manually
copying every time you re-boot ..
unfortunately I don't remember the name or where it was I found it..
A batch file does that easily, you only have to press it before surfing (it can even be set to start firefox portable after copying it to the disk).

Blue is everything.
I just added 1Gb to my laptop. Now running 1280Mb.
I could spare maybe 200Mb to run FF on.
I might look into this.

There's a fully functioning time-limited (Dec 2007) evaluation version available ..
many neat features like : Load disk-image at start-up, save at shut-down,
timed "backup" of RAM-disk content etc etc .
