I believe they are providing the usb flash drive when you purchase their product. It is not a download of software or files.
We kinda only do free open source stuff around here, but I know some of us here are Christians and that is good info for them.

Laridian are offering a software only download as well as the preprepared flsh drives. I've got it and it is good - you get a license for any of the books you've bought for Palm or Windows Mobile devices.

I just purchased Laridian's PocketBible for Windows, and it's very, very nice. If you have purchased Bibles, commentaries, or devotionals (like I did for the Palm) then you will see new download links for Windows versions of the items on your download page. This means that you won't have to spend any more money on books you already purchased. This is important to me, because I've purchased quite a few. Notable is the NIV version which is not free on ANY platform due to its license restrictions. I purchased it for my Palm, so I can download a version for the PC.
PocketBible for Windows is very customizable, allowing you to place Bibles, commentaries, etc. in various "panes" to make organizing the screen easy and personal. Just be aware that once you add a pane, you can't move it--you have to delete it and place it in a new position.
Also, one tip: You don't need to assign multiple panes for multiple Bible versions (or commentaries) Just create a single section for Bibles, and all installed Bibles will all be available in that pane. use the "More..." tab to select which tabs are are shown. Then, when you press the Parallel button, all selected versions will display in that pane. And you can always press the full-window button to expand or collapse the pane. It's surprisingly versatile.
I have also used The Word beta (described above) and like it too, but Laridian's interface seems a bit "cleaner" while The Word seems to be more "advanced" in feel. In any case, both are excellent apps.
Just be aware that with The Word, it DOES write a folder or two on your PC. It is portable, as this folder tree is not necessary for running, but it DOES not clean up this folder after the app closes. If you want to make a truly portable version, just wrap it using JauntePE. It works very well, and leaves no traces behind.
Anyway, the portability, usability, and ability to use previously purchased books made this worth the $30 they are charging for it.

I really can suggest the app "In The beginning Was The Word" - http://www.theword.gr/en/index.php. Freeware (can't say if it is open source) and portable (at least doesn't need to be installed).
I was asking for a Croatian version (which was not available), contacted the author and he implemented it for me.
Application works very smooth, no problems or crashes so far.

I too have this "In The beginning Was The Word" proggy.
My only complaint is, they've been in v3 "beta" for, what, about a year now?...
I keep waiting for them to release the v3 FINAL.
I am impatient, I admit it, but that's an AWFUL long time to be in beta....

But there are some limitations in the beta that the final version supposedly would resolve, and that's what I be waiting for.
(4x, it will be easier to add new modules than in the v2, if I recall correctly.
It's been awhile, but I think there was some facility promised whereby v3 final would allow us to import/use modules from "Sword Project" and "E-Sword", which'd be great. I also use those two proggies, but frankly I like "The Word" 's interface the best of all three of 'em...

Thanks for the report, have been thinking about it. I have some stuff for my handheld unit. It is wince 2.1 and my unit has a large screen so it runs with four panes which is pretty handy.
May get it for the pc - could use it.
