Here is the scenario, I downloaded Toucan today:
I had a folder on my Portable Drive that I wanted to Sync (mirror) with the folder on my PC.
The primary working folder in the future was going to be the one on my computer, but currently all the data was on the drive. So, in the SYNC TAB, I set the
Source: MyPC\Work (currently empty)
Destination: PortableDrive\Work
I then clicked MIRROR and PREVIEW, and GO.
The Help file states that: "Mirror creates an exact copy of the source in the destination and equalise is like running update in both directions, giving BOTH OF YOUR FOLDERS THE NEWEST FILES." So, it should have copied all the new files from the destination folder to the source folder.
It gave me a message saying I should check the preview checkbox if I just wanted to see what was going to happen. I closed that dialog and ensured Preview was checked - it was already.
I then clicked GO again, all settings had not changed. It began to generate what I thought was the preview (as the preview button WAS checked). I let it run in the background until an alert dialog came up to day that it could not delete a certain file. I checked my drive, and everything else in that folder was deleted!
Without writing on the drive at all, I tried to recover the files through a recovery utility, but all the ones in that folder are gone, meaning they were written-over with blank data from the empty folder!
What can I do to get them back?
Read it again. It says Equalise copies it both ways. However, I don't think there is any way to get the files back.

No, It's supposed to sync the newest files:
"...BOTH OF YOUR FOLDERS THE NEWEST FILES."
(sorry, didn't mean that to sound like yelling).
Read it again: "Mirror creates an exact copy of the source in the destination and equalise is like running update in both directions, giving both of your folders the newest files." (Emphasis mine)
It's 2 definitions in 1 sentence.
