How About One Download Page for All Apps

Especially since the suites have not been updated in a year? That way it would take seconds to download the program and the files one wants, instead of 10 or 15 minutes going from page to page to page to page, etc.

Or - maybe even updating the suites, too?

Sorry.

That's just the way SourceForge is configured, we can't change it.

Not correct. You simply have

Not correct.

You simply have no one page with download buttons for all applications. Sourceforge has nothing to do with that. If you had one page with all of the application download links on it one could download all the files as any download manager will handle the redirect fine. I do it all the time on other pages. (You do not even need the Sourceforge Direct Download extension anymore to do so, like you used to to use your favorite mirror. Sourceforge does it all automatically now from your IP address. Examples are the download manager such as DownThemAll extension for Firefox will read all the links on a page for downloading and then allow you to queue them for downloading.)

Now, if I click on any of the application download links, it automatically starts the Sourceforge download without any further action from me. I just have to go to multiple of your application pages to get to the download link for each page.

Even if that was not the case, one page with all the links would decrease all the pages needed to go to to download.

Oh...

I see what you mean. Well, if you go to the PortableApps.com section of SourceForge, and do to browse all files, all the links are there. But they still have to pick a mirror, so you always have to go thru an extra page unless you have a Firefox extension of greasemonkey extension.

Plus, the average use is going to download the Suite which should be updated soon and a few extra apps.

a Canadianfifth is a good bottle to have.

So no consideration should be given to the above average users? Or the below average users? A rather narrow minded approach don't ya think?

Of course no one will ever use all the apps so making them all available for one download is illogical. I think some visitors don't realize that all the original apps are free and they don't have to limit themselves to the portable versions.

The Suite approach is fine but a better approach would be to allow the visitor to customize the Suite's apps to be included in the download. The Suite could have a default 12 apps and the visitor could change each of them to be any other portable app. So the visitor could get whatever 12 apps that best suits his/her needs. Obviously the 12 is an arbitrary number, it could be 10 or 16 and how to customize the download is an unknown.

You're right

Lets have John put all the downloads right on this server and pay god knows how many more thousand per month. Smile Actually, can you host them for us? Then we won't have to worry about mirrors because they're all off one server making downloading a lot quicker.

As per the suite, like three of four different versions are going to be offered and possible a system to pick and choose others right from the menu.
