Upon reading some discussions I seen some mentioning of including freeware / shareware portable apps. I would vote against including it to the applications pages for several reasons:
- Other sites already doing this
- Freeware could always switch license or restrict usage somehow
- Open Source more likely to keep support
Also because many apps are available that are aimed at the same tasks. Having the 'best' open source alternatives is a big plus. (I still remember my search for the best open source variants of CD-Burning software, trying out many to replace some freeware app, before finding infra recorder)
On a side note, Infra recorder might be considered to be included as most of us have gotten an burning app free with out hardware, yet these are ofte lite versions or maybe in dire need of updating. And having an Open Source solution in the suite / platform I consider a plus.

Do you use ANY software yourself which is very productive, yet is either commercial, shareware, or freeware?
I know I do, and I would love it if a site like this would help support the good guys out there even if they are making a little coin on their work somehow.

John will not be handling any closed-source apps, at least not in the near future because Sourceforge won't host them. There are plenty of freeware and a few shareware apps that are very good programs, and while open-source is preferred, I don't see any reason to shut them out. AFAIK, www.portablefreeware.com only hosts portable apps, and isn't involved in any development. I think Framakey has developed a few launchers, but I'm pretty sure they don't host anything closed-source.

From what I understand there will be freeware and commercial apps but we are only making launchers and not including the app (AFAIK anyway), So I believe that we are still sticking with Open-Source though. (Maybe somebody could clarify this further so that I don't give the wrong idea here)

John won't do anything closed-source right now. Others may do some, and whether the app is included depends on the license.

Nonsense. There's no difference between OS/CS freeware, payware is more likely to keep support.

There's no common meaning of "portable". But since portablefreeware.com marks apps as stealthy, there's a good source of portable apps, so I agree here.
PF.com doesn't develop any software though...
As long as PA.com isn't going to develop launchers for closed source programs, making a site for them really is not needed. But I'd appreciate having CS apps portabilized.
