I love portable firefox, but I'm addicted to many features like: form info, history. While I realize that we don't want to save these to flash drive (wear) it should be possible to save these to harddrive of each local machine I use. I realize that the data wouldn't be replicated from machine to machine - but it would better than losing the feature altogether.

You're welcome to turn them on within Tools - Options just like regular Firefox. But the defaults should probably stay as they are.
And, no, you can't just save a part of a profile to a local machine (except cache), it's all or nothing.

As the original poster I guess Im really asking how difficult it would be to split parts of the profile to separate location. I realize that this means making changes to the source. Should a post a feature request in bugzilla for firefox proper?
Firefox does not support such an operation. The only part of a profile that can be stored seperately is the cache through a special setting. You can request an enhancement on Bugzilla, but I doubt that it would be approved.

So, if I turned them on within Tools, it saves on the computers HD and not the Flash drive?
Thanks.
Everything is stored in the profile on your portable device. The reason they are off is that they use up more flash drive life.
Flash drives have a lifespan measured in writes. Each sector can handle a certain number of write operations. All those things that are disabled make a lot of writes for comparatively little benefit (if you're worried about drive life).
