Transfering Addons and Bookmarks.......

Hi, first of all I just wanted to say I really like this little app.

I have just installed Portableapps on my sandisc, I have it working, but what I want to do is to transfer my firefox addons and bookmarks to the protable drive. How do I do that. Baring in mind, I'm not a tachy, so can you explain in simple terms how I can do this.

Thanks you

John

I'm sorry.....

I did read that, but as I've mentioned in my post, I'm not a techie, and its kind of confusing me a bit.

It says you can copy the files over to the portable device. Does that mean I can delete what's already there, or does it mean I have to copy over what's there.

Also I'm not sure I understand this at all.

...When you start Firefox Portable for the first time, it's recommended that you turn off disk cache, password saving and history if you're using a flash-based portable device. You can set all of these within the Privacy tab of the Firefox Options window.

For a start I have no idea where to look for disk cache etc to turn it off. Can somebody help there please?

Thanks again.

Copy paste

When it asks if you want to overwrite any files say yes to all.

As far as the disk cache it is already turned off. See here. Passwords are ok. History should be disabled.

Under " about:config "

The " browser.sessionstore.enabled " boolean is already present along with " browser.sessionstore.max_tabs_undo " and " browser.sessionstore.resume_from_crash ".
When you type " about:config " in the address bar, you will get another search bar below that. Search for " browser.sessionstore " and change " . . . enabled " to false, " . . . max_tabs_undo " to 0 (that's a zero there), and " . . . resume_from_crash " to false. That should reduce the number of writes to your thumb drive and increase its life span drastically. I've never actually had one fail yet, but better safe than sorry. Besides, I rely pretty heavily on my JumpDrive, so I know I'd hate for it to fail.

Hi, I managed to copy over

Hi, I managed to copy over each folder one at a time, wasnt sure enough to just copy the whole folder over at once, and it worked. For some reason it took about 4 times of opening Firefox running in the sandisc, but it worked. I also had to turn enable cookies to log into here. Other than that, my firefox running from the portable aps program is working form what I can see, as I'm using it to write to your now.

Thanks for the help.

Whole folder.

I am glad you were able to get some something figured out. Next time you can just copy over the whole folder though. Happy PortableApping!

here's an option...

https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/2109

That is the location for getting FEBE, which you can install into your hard disk installation of Firefox, and then you can back up your profile.

I, for instance, will use it to back up my portable Firefox into another directory on my thumb drive. Then, if I have to reinstall for some ungodly reason, FEBE will allow me to reinstall all my extensions, my passwords, my bookmarks, preferences, permissions, etc....
