XAMPP Launcher

When I use XAMPP Launcher, the following appear at XAMP Control Panel:

Current Directory: X:\
Install Directory: X:\xampp
*** WARNING: Directory mismatch ***

After that, mySQL (as an example) won't start.

If I run xampp-control.exe directly from Windows explorer, I get:

Current Directory: X:\xampp
Install Directory: X:\xampp

and mySQL will start.

Is this a problem with the XAMPP Launcher?

1.2

This should be fixed by the 1.2 release of the launcher.

And again

The same question... are you using the 1.2 release which fixes this problem or the 1.1 release?

Me too but solved it somehow

I had the same problem neither Apache nor MySQL would start when i started xampp-control from the portableapps suite.

First of all, do not run setup-xampp.bat when installing on a USB pendrive.

What i did was...

I started the XAMPP Control Panel.
I clicked the Apache checkbox to uninstall the service. Then i clicked it to install it back. Finally i pressed Start and everything ran smoothly.

Same applies for MySQL which is not started as a service and FileZilla.

Hope this helps...

Same warning here

I've got the same warning, no matter whether I use the launcher (1.2) or start directly (P:\xampp).

Alternative Porting

The Xammp-control was not designed to be used with portable drives. Only one Xampp session of Apache or MySQL, using ports 80/3306 can be run at a time. When the control panel comes up, it reads those ports and the services. If you uninstall the services (running from the portable drive) and start them again, it simply changes the Xampp location to the portable drive...which means that if that drive is removed, the services will be broken on the main system.

The solution is to configure your 'portable Xampp' to run Apache and MySql on different ports by changing the configurations in both. There is a detailed readme at www.zedfiles.com/DTX/ along with an Open Source control (dtx-control) that can be used as an alternative to the Xampp-control.
