Okay, people requested this a while back. And I liked it, so I said I would make a launcher. Then I forgot, then someone pointed it out, so I did make the launcher, and then I moved everything on my desktop into a folder, and as I was organizing that folder, I found this. I changed the code a bit for now. Right now all this really does is put it in the PortableApps.com Format and make the path to the image portable.
For those that don't know TunnelVision is a privacy application, mostly useful in say an internet cafe where you don't want others to see what your doing. It basicially blacks out the screen except a defined area around your mouse, a 'tunnel'. You can also have an image instead of a black background, and I just included a default of the WinXP desktop.
Download TunnelVision Portable 0.02 Test 1
I'm not sure if this will be added to PortableApps.com, as it's not that useful to most. So I've included no help.html and such, or a splash screen. Any features to the launcher are suggested. I was thinking maybe having the user browse for a background image on first run, and have it copied to the drive, sound good?
Please test and post feedback, thanks guys.
just started to use it.
it is a really good program and it works well,
i am going to check for bugs and stuff soon
Please search before posting. ~Thanks
great program
couple things
*a splash screen would be cool
*when you set the default image to tile the image does not appear on screen, however this does not happen with other images however.
*when you open a menu the whole screen appears for about two seconds.
the really only major one is the second one.
All in all i love this program
Please search before posting. ~Thanks
So far it seems to work well. Keep up the good work.
Wouldn't mind seeing a token splash screen and the help file included though. Even if it doesn't get added to the PortableApps.com site, I always like a splash screen so I know it's starting up. And the help would be nice to see because I'll probably be mentioning this app to friends as well, and some of them like generic help info if they aren't sure what to do.
A nice app. I with I would've known about this before. I agree, you should put a splash screen, but other than that...you really can't screw this up.
Good work!!
As for browsing for an image...I'd make that an option. The default image you use isn't bad, so make it an option to use the default or search later. Make sure, though, to let the user know that it is changeable later
I really like this concept - especially in my security area when I want to look up something but need to minimize "wondering eyes". If you feel inclined to fully finish it, it'll be used by me at least.
Thank you for the work and sharing it!
I like this program when I don't want anyone to see my desktop (or whatever).
Good to head the popularity for this app. I will add a splash screen, but maybe John can make a comment on whether it will be added here as it seems to be quite popular so far. Thanks for the comments guys.

Wow, I just noticed I still had a signature, that's enough of that.
works great, and i really like the icon you have for it. much better than the icon for the app itself. may i recommend recompiling the original app with your icon, or ResHacking it in? The new icon would look much better in the system tray.
Edit: the installer has a full default path rather than just "/TunnelVisionPortable" like most of the other installers around here. is this an installer update that i just haven't noticed yet, or was it an error?
and for the Source directory, all of John's apps say AppNamePortableSource

The AppPortableSource and AppSource directories are being merged into the one Source directory. Check some of the newer launchers.
And the full path might be if you have the menu installed on one drive, as it will automatically find and suggest those.

It specifically looks for X:\PortableApps, so if you have a folder called that on one of your drives, it will fill that in.

I realize this post has been sitting idol for a while, but I liked the app enough that I decided to test it under Vista Ultimate and it works flawlessly
Please link to the base application.

here's the main app page:
http://www.cockos.com/tunnelvision/
Now that there's a bump, how much interest is there in this? I planned up updating it, including a few default Bliss wallpapers, grabbing the screen res, and using the most appropriate one. Anyone interested?
I would be interested
Interesting app Patrick. I have a few ideas, but don't really want to join the forums over there to suggest the ones that involve the base app yet. If you want to pass them along, that would be cool.
1. Don't know if you could handle this with the launcher or if you might want to ask the dev to put it in the base app.
>Dialog asks if you would like to use a screenshot of the current desktop or one already stored.
>If current is selected: The dialog closes, Show Desktop command sent, Prt Scr command sent, resulting image is set to be used by tunnelvision.
>On Exit a dialog could ask "Do you want to keep current screenshot or delete"
. It should have buttons for Save, Save As..., and Delete. A checkbox for "Always use this action"
2. (Base App) A hotkey to enable/disable the "viewport" while leaving the "cover" image up.
>Disabled would make it appear you weren't doing anything no matter how many windows you actually have open.
>A hotkey to Enable/Disable the image also, would give a quick "coverup"
3. (Base App) Mouse wheel + hotkey support for dynamically sizing the viewport, in 10% increments from 0-up. ( zero would mean no visible viewport)
That's all I have from my first impressions.
I really like the use current feature, but I suggest that if it is implemented, to not send the Show Desktop command. Win-D is an easy enough command to press, and if the user wants to have a program open for the screenshot, it would be minimized, and the user would have to screenshot manually.
I'm interested too.

I thinks its useful. More useful than some OTHER programs in dev test.

Well how bout this?
The "tunnel" is on the bottom right.
(I right-clicked on the TunnelVision icon and moved my cursor away.)

I can't see that image whenever you use that image service. I just see 'picture.JPG'.
click download, then open it locally.
But there’s no sense crying over every mistake,
You just keep on trying till you run out of cake.
can you please host your pictures elsewhere, somewhere like MediaFire so that we don't have to open it locally?

hehe, nice little application, thank for the Portable version !
The download appears to have gone AWOL.
Any news on it? Anyone developing? it seems like a nice app...
If only I was any good at making things like these, I would do it myself.
link bad...
The DNS name in the link is being redirected to Patrick's new domain. That and the file doesn't exist on the new domain.

I took a look around my server, and I don't see it there. Hopefully someone has a copy, if not I'll redo it at some point.
I happen to have a copy of it, if you would like I could email it to you.
I'll send you a quick note from the contact me page on your website and I'll email it to you once you reply
Could I have a copy please?
you can email me here:

He's emailing it back to the developer of the portable package. Once the dev receives it, the link will be fixed in the top of this page.

This works on Vista with glass enabled... I'm shocked.
This is working really well.
It's a little slow, even on my computer (though everything seems to be slow these days) which has 2GB of RAM, running XP SP3, but no crashes or fails. Works like a charm.
Works great on XP SP2 ,I hope Development continues.

Could you renew the download link?
This is a great small app. I like it!
Thanks for your efforts.
this was a dead topic
but please renew or update... please
