Xenon File Manager Portable 1.2.9 Beta

I have just released an update for Xenon File Manager Portable.

Basically Xenon is a file manager that allows one to take file associations with you.

Fixed: A lot of bugs (mostly due to upgrading to AutoIt beta which broke a lot of functions).
Fixed: Directory loading is less flashy.

Added: Option to hide ".."
Added: Right click -> new file
Added: Tile View
Added: Dates + Version Info in Properties window.

Changed: Awesome new icon set modified by NeoRame!

Download: https://downloads.sourceforge.net/xenon-portable/XenonPortable_beta_1.2....

Plugins: https://downloads.sourceforge.net/xenon-portable/plugins_beta_1.2.8.7z

Note: A final release is here.

It rocks

It rocks. I know Wine is not supported, but I am not capable of selecting the language, I'll try on windows 2000 and say more (maybe ReactOs is supported Wink ). Oh! And could you please add non 32bit pictures inside your icons too? I can make you some just like the originals if you want, who as support for 32bit icons will be able to see the 32bit versions and who as not support for them will be happy.

Nope

The language menu doesn't work on Windows 2000 neither. And some 24bit icons for the toolbar could be a wonderful. I already use some modded ones on the old version of Xenon. But if I use a custom version of "settings.ini" then Xenon uses the right language. And, once more, 24bit icon support for pre Windows XP systems (Or at least a way of bypassing the missing of 32bit icons support).

Sweet!

Did you write TextPad? If you did awesome work because I've never seen such a simple open source text editor, and I love it! If you didn't, congrats to the guy who did. Blum

A few suggestions

could you allow more than one app to handle a specific file extension, for instance the 1st one chosen to handle (lets say .txt files) be NotePad++ Portable, and have another program such as ScitePortable, but have the other handlers be made available via the context menu.

Is it possible to have Live Searches with AutoIT? (it searches as you type), if yes that would be wonderful!

Also this is definetly going in my Suites.

I don't think I'll add that

I don't think I'll add that exactly, but I've been thinking about an "Edit" menu item.

Dynamic searches are not realistic. The search tool does not use an index which means it would be really really slow.

Great

As always, Xenon Portable is great. I would love to see it on the official app list.

Great!

I realy like it, it would be perrrfect if it had a folders listing on the right and the content of the selected folder on the left, kinda like Win explorer.

Language selection

Hi,
It seems to me that there is a little bug in the 1.2.5 beta.

Installed it over 1.2.4 - language selection works,
Installed it fresh (old version deleted as recomended) - no language entries under
Select-language.

A couple of things
  1. Doesn't support Shift-Delete to bypass the recycle bin
  2. Languages are all "Unknown"
  3. Icons at top flicker when I move the mouse (1024 x 768, 16bit, WinXP RTM (No service packs))

More when I find them Biggrin

Seriously though, looks good.

  2. Yay!
  3. I figured, but it's only a small thing, so it doesn't really bother me

Great update. One thing though, it appears as though the GUI redraws itself every time the mouse is moved. The entire window flashes quickly on each mouse move, comes back normally, and then ALL of the icons flicker for a short amount of time.

It Rocks... Again

Again, it rocks. Wink
Again, I ask for 24bit icons together with the 32 ones. Wink
(I offer myself to enhance the icons to 24 bit and maintain them at 32 bit on supporting OSes. I am talking of the alpha transparency)

And a bug: on the pt-PT language it says:

LANGUAGESETTINGSTAKEPLACEAFTERRESTART=As definições de linguagem irão
tomar lugar ao reiniciar.

when it should say:

LANGUAGESETTINGSTAKEPLACEAFTERRESTART=As definições de linguagem irão tomar lugar ao reiniciar.

It should not have a line brake because then it doesn't show all the info on the infobox.
If it was my fault I am sorry Sad

And some bugs already said by Ryan applies here, those of the unknown language, and the flicker on the images. I'll try ReactOS to see if I can have support Wink .

No

The toolbar icons are only 32bit icons, so, the icons look bad on any OS that has not alpha transparency available/on. At least the ones on the downloaded versions have not 24bit also.

Thanks for the corrected bugs.

Bit of a large request...

Can you use Johns launcher at all? Autoit is not friendly with application filtering based on filename. It seems johns one launches the exe in a different way.

Pretty much i rename everything to notepad.exe to run it, otherwise its blocked.

I would love to use this, but this is a bit of a limitation.

Sorry, I don't understand the issue.

Actually the only executables in Xenon are the launchers. That could be changed (pretty easily), but at the cost of disc space. Also I am no good at NSIS.

Well the XenonPortable.exe

Well the XenonPortable.exe file appears to be executing another file, somewhere this is related to autoit, as the error is an autoit error saying it could not start the application, and at the same time a security popup saying it cannot run the program due to security restrictions.
That probably means that the renamed xenonportable.exe is calling upon another executable, which does not work as that filename isnt trusted.
This however does not occur with johns launcher, which appears to do it in a different way.

It Rooooooocks!!!

Again, it is amazing. I love the new good toolbar icons with 24bit support. Bugs gone!!!

Some untranslated strings translated to Portuguese:

SELECTALL=Seleccion&ar Todos

And some buggy strings (maybe because of me, again Blum ):

THEEXECUTABLEMUSTBEONTHESAMEDRIVEASXENON=O executável tem de estar na mesma drive que o Xenon.

And there seem to be some untranslatable strings, for example: Style option on the View menu, and the size options when seeing the Properties of a file.

The Search plugin, and TextPad seems not to be using translations at all.

Hope to have helped, and, keep going with this app.

Xenon crashes when trying to get to the computer root (drive listing) so I don't know if the mapped drives are there or not; also can't say if explorer will crash.

One thing I thought of, on the work laptop (XP Home) the mapped network drives are live and connected. On my home laptop (XP Pro) the mapped drives exist in explorer, but are not connected because my other PC is off. I'm not sure if this makes a difference to them showing up or the crash though (haven't had a chance to test it).

keep up the good work, and I have a suggestion, for the .exe s that have no icon, like commandline apps do, maybe give them an icon, (but not the default Windows gives them). Cause the view then looks incomplete.

OK, if there was a version of PAM that was modified to use Xenon for file exploring (i.e. the Document folder button), would this be possible (not the PAM part, but the Xenon taking commands from PAM).

Cause I was thinking PAM or geek.menu + Xenon = Awesomeness...

BTW when I launch a file that is made so it will open in Stuffpad, Xenon looks for Textpad instead, also I think Textpad is a better name than Stuffpad.

Nice Progress

This app is maturing nicely. You're doing some great work here.

If I may make one suggestion for your new tree view? Use the drive icons instead of folder icons in the tree view that you use in the my computer view from the regular pane. Also if would be more smooth if a single click on the tree view change the location of the main pane instead of a double click.

I'm a big fan of your work here.

Well,

The toolbar icons, when I hover over them, the top part highlights with like a grey smudge, and it looks really weird. As well, the inactive icons don't look the greatest. But the program's awesome, don't worry about it too much. I can post a screenshot if you want.

Also, any change of having the option to use 32px toolbar icons instead?

I'm having a weird problem with the tree. It seems to remember whatever folders I've clicked into. For example if I click down to Program Files\some program\app dir\, then close everything back up, and then try to click into c:\Dell, everything I was inside previously in Program Files expands back out.

I've got the ever expanding folder tree!! It's sadly unusable that way.

Awesome!

Thanks for adding a lot of the features we suggested!

It seems to have no bugs to me. I now officially vote that this application be added to PortableApps.com!

Awesome work MISIIM!

I thot it was an issue not hitting all the mirrors, so I just went back to the Xenon page and went to downloads to try again. Blum

Mail sent

You got e-mail... Wink

If a packet hits a pocket on a socket on a port,
and the bus is interrupted as a very last resort,
and the address of the memory makes your floppy disk abort,
then the socket packet pocket has an error to report Biggrin

Really good

It's really good, but it seems that I can't change from details view, neither modify anything on how it shows the data...
Even that way it is great and I love the new search bar.

Blue is everything.

A Bug with the Association Editor

When I add new extensions and I try to enter the info this is what I get before the Editor closes:

Line -1:

Error: Array variable has incorrect number of subscripts or subscript dimension range exceeded

Xenon does not crash, just the Editor.

OK, Just as a note here is a final release. (This is beta testing so I can't post it in the main part.) That bug is fixed + a few features and Spanish were added. (http://downloads.sourceforge.net/xenon-portable/XenonPortable_1.3.paf.exe)

I'm trying out v1.3, and I still have a variant of the tree bug I posted about (20 posts up).

I can move around the tree on a single drive (C: for example) without the directories re-opening. But if I switch to another drive (like D:) then all the folder from C: open back up. I can close them, but as soon as I'm back to D:, all open again :*(
