There is now a button at the bottom of the forums page to "Mark all Forums Read" as well as a button within each forum to "Mark all Topics Read". This should make it much easier for folks to keep track of new posts and such. Please post a note in this topic if you notice any issues with this new functionality.
No issues whatsoever, if I encounter any issues I will tell you.
I saw it, and I like it.
Vintage!
i love this feature.

BUG
*EDIT* after pressing the "Mark all Forums read" button, it doesnt show me the "New Post" link when its a new post inside.
Hell was full, so I came back!!!
Sorry for my lousy English!!!
Can you add it to the recent posts page as well.
I tend to go straight to that page, it would be great to be able to read the ones I want/need to and them just mark all the others as read.

I third that
The recent posts page doesn't include posts in the off-topic forum. And it soon won't include the other language forums either (currently, we have German, but we're adding more). So, it would be marking all forums as read even though the recent posts page doesn't show posts from all forums.
That plus I'd have to do some more custom theme/view coding to get the button to show up on recent posts (which isn't the standard Drupal Tracker but a custom View I created).

Which new languages are coming up on these forums ( )?!!! I like the idea. Oh! And the mark all post buttons saved me a lot of time, thanks.
Is it possible to offer a choice in our profiles to choose which forums we want displayed? I'd personally just have it so that the off-topic posts are shown.

This is really great. I've gotten far behind on posts and am now all caught up! John has so many wonderful ideas, or skills on implementing those of others.
If you just marked all the stories read, then you didn't read them, right?
I guess I don't understand what the point of this new button except that it removes all the little red 'new' tags next to the forum thread titles.
If it didn't do this, my mistake, I don't want to try the button out as I liked to know what threads I haven't read yet. If I didn't want to read it, I don't read it, it's not like it I can't ignore the title.
The thing that would be really neat is the "Show only new posts" type of button/function, so that threads w/out new posts in them wouldn't be mixed in w/ the active threads.
Don't be an uberPr∅. They are stinky.
You just read everything in all forums you want (or one at a time) and then mark the rest read. From then on, everything that shows as unread is new. And you can click the button again to mark others read every once in a while.
And we already have a show new posts thing... it's called the Active Posts (aka Tracker) link that shows active threads across all forums.

Alright, I understand. I guess for my posting habits, I do read what I really want to read, stuff I use or am looking to use, but when I have some downtime, I do like to look back at the other threads which had no interest to me at that time, to see if it is something that I might need or for just general increase of knowledge (of which I get a lot out of from this website). That's why I still need the "New" icon, if I haven't read it.
As for the Active Posts(Tracker) , I never used.
The "Recent Posts" link/page, I do use that all the time. I like that it is sorted by Last Post date, regardless of it being new or not.

I have a weird issue with this new feature. First off, I keep myself logged into this site as long as the cookie is valid (a week or so, 10 days?) and I don't log off.
So I tried out the feature, and it works well! However when I come back to the site later, the new topic counts are way off. Like today, the Gen Disc forum said it had 2 new topics on the main Forums page. In fact it had 6. It's the same basic problem with all the other forums as well, some showing no new activity at all when there are new posts.
Maybe of consequence - I run FF + Sandboxie + Cookie Culler, which is set to protect my PApps cookie. Could it be one of these programs causing the issue?
