I run my Thunderbird on a 4GB USB Drive. I just use it as a way to transport my emails. The problem I had is that all of a sudden Inbox dissapeared. What I did 1st was to check if the USED SPACE on the drive changed, and It didnt. I just have 2 folders where I save mails. One is "Inbox" and the other is "Sent".
Inbox's size was 520 MB
Sent's size was (and still is) 250 MB
When I checked I found that Thunderbird creates 2 files for each folder. One of those files has no extension (the one that is heavier) and the other one is a small file with the same name as the folder and with extension ".msf"
I just created a new folder named Inbox and all my emails appeared. Perfect!
Now the problem is that it dissapeared again but this time it wont recover my emails when I create the folder again.
I still have the BIG file named Inbox (520 MB) but I dont know how to recover my emails... can someone help me?

The one with no extension is the Inbox, msf is the indexfolder.Close tb, do a backup of your profile. Then delete the .msf file.Restart TB , your msf is created anew , Your Inbox should be as it was. Look at Mozilla FAQ, known problems, because that´s no Portable specific problem. It can also occur with Your local TB.

I tried deleting the MSF file for all folders and as you said TB created again those folders. Problem is that it took like 10 minutes to build the summary file for Inbox but only 2 e-mails appeared when it finished building the file, and I used to have 3k e-mails there....
Any clue of how will I be able to recover those e-mails?

I tried using IMAPSize and chosing the Inbox file (the one wich size was 520 MB) and It restored some mails to eml format correctly (1100 mails aprox). Problem is that I had more than 3k mails.
Does anyone knows another software to convert TB files into another format to see if I can recover those mails?

Maybe You´ll find some help in there,
but it seems that Your file is badly corrupted.
EDIT: to exclude a drive problem, install TB locally,replace the inboxfile in the new profile by Yours, delete the inbox.msf....be patient because indexing takes its time.That´s the way I recovered my big inbox nearly complete but there were only about 800 mails, good luck.
