Latest Firefox resets preferences

I just installed the new firefox over the older one and noticed the bookmarks and some preferences are lost.

Somehow I got the impression that the folder structure had to ensure that 'updating' a application would keep the previous information like settings and bookmarks.

Hmm..
Perhaps you used any extension that does not work with your FF.
I did not have any difficulties.
I used the newest release for some days before the update came to portable apps.

I like webdesign, especially with some portable apps

I just had some bookmarks

I just had some bookmarks which dissapeared after the install of the current one. I also had it's frontpage use a blank page instead of a firefox page. Nothing fancy imho.

...

I upgraded mine to .8 when it first notified me that a update was available. I updated again when the proper portable release was done. Both updates left mine exactly the way it was prior to the updates. I have 1 theme and 37 extensions loaded into my PFF.

I agree with ehrlich that there has to be something with your install that did not allow itself to be upgraded properly. It is for this reason alone I keep multiple backups of my Portable apps on several computers just in case something gets updated and it did not work they way I wanted it to I can roll back to a prior copy.

It

worked fine for me, and I didn't even have an official PA.com build there before, I had a heavily customised version of the launcher. Which version were you upgrading from?

Data Unmodified

The Data directory (which contains your bookmarks, settings, extensions, etc) is unmodified by the installer. Any chance your profile was in a different location or something like that?

Just installed the Firefox

Just installed the Firefox portable, and added some bookmarks. Today I installed the latest available version from this site and then the bookmarks were not available anymore.
The only different location for bookmarks would be the USB drive letter that might have changed in the time as thats dynamic.

Can't Reproduce

I can't reproduce what you're seeing. I installed 2.0.0.6. Changed the homepage and added bookmarks. Installer 2.0.0.8 over it. Ran fine. Moved it to another drive. Ran fine.

Please list out the exact steps you're doing to produce this issue and whether you're running any extra extensions, INI options, etc.

bookmark icons?

How about the bookmark icons? Some of them got reset to the generic one instead of the website one. Do I have to reload a cache or something?

Unrelated

Again, this is unrelated to Firefox Portable as it makes no changes to your bookmarks.html at all. It could be related to FF 2.0.0.8 upgrades or something else.

had to go back to website

The firefox portable didn't change the link I had in the bookmarks, but I was talking about the little favicons that are next to the titles.

I had to revisit the website that didn't have an icon, and then the icon showed up. I had at first wondered if it was cache related because it is set to zero by default on the portableapps version, and I read in some places that erasing the disk cache cleared those favicon pics. (besides the websites that have an ending date on them)

favicons different from 'losing bookmarks'

consul,

favicons come and go and I notice it's not consistent even when straight upgrading the non-portable firefox. The favicon isn't stored in the bookmark html file. Hence, it _must_ be in some type of cache that firefox keeps (even if set to 0). Between versions, this might change, and it has nothing to do with the portable apps launcher/installer.

It's always great to know u can install the portable apps in place on top of any previous version.

No Problems Here

I have a few thousand bookmarks and over 50 extensions, 2 themes.

Everything went smoothly.
