I've got no idea of what is happens, but when I used to have GIMP Portable 2.2.13, it would freeze whenever I use keyboard shortcuts as simple as Copy or Past. I've downloaded the latest GIMP Portable and I still have the same problem. I checked the Forums for the same problem but no one else seems to have problems with it. I also checked the Support page and still nothing was found. Then whenever I try doing something to get out of it, Windows brings up one of those messages saying that you can send a report.
If anyone can help with this situation, I'd be really greatful. I don't know any programming knowledge just so you know, except HTML for web design. Thanks in advance for anyone who knows what to do. Just so you know, I only am on the Internet once a week, so it may be wise not to expect an answer later than a week.
What system(s) were you using it on? I'd say it's probably a GTK or GIMP problem.

I use Windows XP Home with no service packs (I use a HP Pavilion computer from 2002), it is actually my Mum's computer. It only uses 224mb RAM. I don't have GTK on the computer at all, nor do I have a local version of The GIMP.

Just Copy and Paste, or everything else too? If just copy and paste, try the edit menu.

I think it is all shortcuts, I tried once doing a keyboard shortcut for something else a few days ago and is still froze (I forgot what it was, probably Erasure). The menus work fine, it is just the shortcuts.

Does the same thing happen with another GTK app, like Pidgin Portable?
Also, this is on an admin account, isn't it?

I'm not too sure, the thing is, I haven't got any other GTK programs from PortableApps (well, I don't know what other apps use GTK). I haven't got Pidgin Portable yet, although I'm downloading it at the moment with GetRight. I can try and tell you after I download it whether it is GIMP or not. Although, I must add that the day I created this post, I was at my aunt and uncle's place and I loaded GIMP Portable on there, tried out a shortcut key and it worked. I have a feeling it must be the system at home I'm using. My cousin is big into photography and he has the nonportable version of GIMP 2.2.13 on his computer, so I think he has GTK installed, because from what I read in PC User, you need GTK installed before using The GIMP. Do you need GTK installed on your computer to use GIMP Portable or does it come already with GIMP Portable?
I must also say that on my 1GB SanDisk Cruzer I have Gaim Portable and Miranda Portable, just thought I'd say that in case it means anything.

GIMP Portable comes with GTK. Gaim Portable is just the old version of Pidgin Portable. I'm thinking it may be that you have an incompatible version of GTK in your CommonFiles folder. However, we'll have to wait until after you have tried Pidgin Portable.

Well, I tried Pidgin Portable and when I double-clicked a buddy, the computer just froze. I don't think I have a CommonFiles directory in my PortableApps folder. I plan to get Java on my drive soon, so that will create a CommonFiles directory. I didn't know that The GIMP needed a CommonFiles folder. I must also tell you that it isn't just keyboard shortcuts, I just recently tried using GIMP Portable's writing tool, and as soon as I started typing stuff into it, it does what the Shortcuts do. I have a feeling it is just the computer, as it has had no upgrades since Mum got it in 2002, therefore all the componants are all 6 years old.

On December 24, a friend of the family came up from Melbourne with 2 computers, both are built around 2002 and are similar to the computer I mentioned above, but the thing is, it has Service Pack 2 for XP on, so I tried GIMP Portable on my one and still have the same error message come up like before. I tried installing the local version of The GIMP and still had trouble. It appears that it obviously isn't just the Portable one that is doing it, it is The GIMP all round. I've tried installing The GIMP 2.2.13 on my computer and no luck, but then I uninstalled it and installed version 2.4.2 and I still have that problem, therefore, I had no alternative but to uninstall it, so now I have no idea what to do about it. I wouldn't even have been able to keep it on my computer anyway, because if you change or make a picture and go to save and type in the file name, it does the error, therefore leaving it unsaved. I guess I'll have to let the GIMP developers know about it. Thanks so much for your help anyway, I really appreciate it.

I still have problems with The Gimp, but I realise that I probably haven't given full error message details. The following is for GIMP Portable 2.2.17:
gimp-2.2.exe has encountered a problem and needs to
close. We are sorry for the inconvenience.
If you were in the middle of something, the information you were working on
might be lost.
Please tell Microsoft about the problem.
We have created an error report that you can send to us. We will treat
the report as confidential and anonymous.
To see what data this error report contains, click here.
On that dialogue is two buttons, Send Error Report or Don't Send.
I can't really tell you what the report is, but I can make a snapshot to help solv the problem. When I go to click Don't Send, the error and The GIMP closes, but when I open Windows' Task Manager, Script-Fu is still running, so I have to kill that process.
