Portable Open Office wont start

I have downloaded and installed portable Open office adding it to other Portable applications.

When I try to open any of the open office programs I get the error message "The application cannot start. An internal error occured.

Any ideas on this?

Corrupted . . .?

Try it with a fresh download. Hopefully, that will solve your problem.

Same Issue

Just to let you know, I'm having the same problem. I've deleted, re-downloaded and reinstalled multiple times but nothing seems to do the trick. I thought it might somehow be related to Java so I installed Java onto the USB drive with the Java_Portablizer_1.1.paf.exe program but still no luck.

Portable Open Office won't start

I did as was suggested, by downloading on another computer and line. However, the result is the same. It still won't start.
Any further suggestions?

Open office will not work

I have downloaded and installed portable Open office adding it to other Portable applications.

When I try to open any of the open office programs I get the error message "The application cannot start. An internal error occured.

I have also tried re-installing with no success. The rest of the programs in the package work ok.

Oddball Paths

This is nearly always caused by oddball paths. OpenOffice.org will choke on non-standard characters in the path (dollar signs, paths with more than 200 characters, etc). The directory X:\PortableApps\OpenOfficePortable is the recommended install location.

The solution is to move it to a standard path and then delete your OpenOfficePortable\Data folder (as it has the broken path in the config files).

I have tried your suggested procedure. I formatted the flash drive. I cleared all ref of previous download from C: Drive I re- down loaded and installed into G: Drive as instructed.I still cannot open the OOo. Should it be this hard to do. Everything else
ie Firefox and T/Bird work ok.

Local

Run it locally first. Put it in the same place on your C drive first. Say, C:\PortableApps\OpenOfficePortable and run it. You should find that it runs fine. Then copy that known-working copy to your G drive and try it again. You may find that it fails. This usually indicates a communication/connection issue between the drive and the PC or a drive that is failing. I'm not sure why, but OpenOffice.org installations usually wind up shining a light on this. If I had to guess, I'd say it's because it's writing a solid 180MB of small files to the drive all at once.

Local

I tried Local install. Still cannot get the open office apps to work. Same old message. The other apps like sudoku etc run OK. All apps designated Open Office will not run. Effectively half of the program as down loaded is not working. I checked the USB drive by transferring a 450Mb Excel file into the flash memory without a problem.
I will keep an eye on the forum and see if a resolution of the problem eventually surfaces

PC or Drive

There won't be a resolution otherwise. It's something particular to your PC or drive. For instance, does a local copy of OpenOffice.org work? If not, the portable one won't either (and that's an indication that your PC is seriously messed up).

PC or drive

I have installed a copy of Open Office.org 1.1.2 on my local drive and it works OK as it has in the past on my previous computers. I then installed OO.o 1.1.2 on my flash
memory drive. Now I have portable apps and OO.o saved to that drive as two separate files. The arrangement works inasmuch as I have imported Excel data which provides me with portable back up. I can write and save text files and I can access Firefox and Thunderbird. So far so good. A bit unwieldy but it works I have tried transferring the flash drive on my other computer which does not have OO.o installed and we have the usual Windows message that Windows does not know which program to use to open this file This seems to kill the portability factor it is unlikely I would find computers as I travel loaded with OO.o . I am trying to eliminate the possible causes of the error message.
My next step will be to try to download on a friends computer to see if I the problem disappears. That way I will know if the problem lies with computer.
Many thanks Bert Harris

Ok, let see if I am understanding your dilemma correctly. When you put OO.o Portable on a computer that doesn't already have office software on it, you can't 2x click to open a document. If this is the case then I think you misunderstand what a portable app is. OO.o Portable is not changing the file associations in the registry. If it was it wouldn't meet the definition of portable very well. Because of this you have to first open OO.o Portable, then tell it to open your document. This is the norm for portable applications.

If you are just wanting to double click the document and have it open, you need to either try the C.A.F.E. Mod floating around here or download and install regular (non-portable) OpenOffice.org.

Sometimes

if you have openoffice installed locally, and its speed launcher is running in your taskbar, your portable will give an error, because it's already running.

If that's the case just close your speed launcher in the task bar and try it again.

Oh?

Hmm... I'll have to check on that. Does it happen consistently or no?

If I remember

correctly I too had that issue.
Or maybe it was during an update where I had to close the local speed-launcher.

This may sound crazy, but I

This may sound crazy, but I was experiencing the same problem. I would install and uninstall Open Office on my flash drive and it would never work. However, this was occuring on my PC using Vista. I removed my flash drive from that computer and placed it in my laptop using XP Pro and guess what?; it worked. I don't understand, but some how it works fine with XP. I removed it from the XP system, placed it back into the machine with Vista and again, it did not work. I have no solution, but I decided to share my experience with you.

NTFS?

Did you have it formatted as NTFS? Do NOT format a drive as NTFS. If you want to use NTFS, you have to format it as FAT32 and then use the CONVERT utility with the /NoSecurity switch. If you don't (if you just do a straight format), Vista will screw up dealing with your removable drive.

Yeah

I found this one out the hard way, in the end I just gave up and went for FAT32, that way I can use it in Linux as well.

P.S. You're up really early this time (or is that all night).

The solution is kinda

The solution is kinda hidden, but go to the exe file, and right click on it. Then click on the properties. Find the compatability tab, the run in compatability for win xp sp2.

Microsoft doesn't even know that trick.

What?

Is what working now? I have xp, Drive is not NTFS, and I always have to unload the speedlauncher to run OpenOffice on the drive.
