When i put my flash drive in.If im away from my pc and i dont want anybody to touch my pc and would like to lock my desktop ect with password. Is this possible thanks?

Lock your computer, or lock your key?
WinKey + L will take you to the logon screen or lock the computer depending on your setup. It won't do any good if you don't have a password on your user account. (You could also password-protect your screensaver.)
You can't lock the USB key, though you can encrypt it -- this doesn't seem feasible for automatic lock/unlock, though.

I think what he means is he wants to put his flash drive in his comp, and the flash drive will lock he comp, and then the only way to unlock is to put the flash drive back in. but why not just set a password?

On most modern Windows machines, you can press CTRL + ALT + Delete and then choose Lock Computer to lock the machine with your login and password. The only logins that can unlock it is your own and the administrator.
As for a non-OS solution, I haven't seen a secure one lately. If you find any, let me know.

What if you wrote a program that polled for a keyfile on a USB drive that whenever the keyfile couldnot be found it would lock the workstation. The trouble is unlocking it upon return.

Well if an app can get a fullscreen image, which will only go away when you enter a password, the app can serve as a lock.
I don't see why this isn't possible when they have disabled the standard windows screenlock.
you would have to capture key presses as well or people would just alt-tab out of it.

I've had a look at programs which do that and all the ones I have found can easily be closed with Ctrl+Alt+Del
What about keeping a password protected screensaver on your key and just activating it when you leave the workstation?

I don't think you have to worry unless they have .scr blocked from running you don't need permission. You can run any .scr without changing the Windows screensaver settings.
If memory serves me right, there is a screen locker program included in a utility package going by the name of Net Tools (http://users.pandora.be/ahmadi/nettools.htm) that works when you can't lock the computer by pressing Ctrl-Alt-Del and then choosing 'Lock Computer'. I was running this for a while at my local uni, and it seemed to work fine.
