Anyone got any instructions or help on making a personal copy of Maya PLE run portably?
Thanks in advance.

Maya is a well known 3D modeling software that was originally owned by Alias. It was bought out by Autodesk a year or so ago and fortunately Autodesk kept the PLE version available for us average people whom don't have a spare couple of grand kicking around. But, although I have not checked, if Autodesk have played with it as this is now at 8.5 (was at 7 if I remember correctly, before they took over) it will rely heavily on registry entries etc like all other Autodesk software.

Stick with Blender and support opensource!

Oh well.
Guess I'll stick to Blender for most things.
But poking around in Maya is. fun. It can still do a lot of things that aren't in Blender yet (or are but aren't so fast yet).

you better pray blender didnt hear you say that
I don't think they'd be that bothered - Blender has existed for far less time, and has gained features much faster. Blender can, and may well, supercede Maya within a few years. If a feature works better in Maya, it's only because no-one has yet contributed something of that quality. But there's a lot more people working on improving Blender than there are working on Maya. It's inevitable.

I don't like sites that require my personal information to download free software.
Why do they need my name and address if the software is free?
They don't seem to have noticed that their database recently gained a Mr. Fakey McFaux of Scamsville.
Hmmm...

You can put anything you like. They don't send an email link like most. Its just to spam you a little with their products. Put anything in then it will put you on the download page. At least it did last time I downloaded from the site.

I went to www.blender.org. On the front page I clicked "Download Now" (in the upper right corner) and it sent me to this site:

It didn't ask me for info at all.
In fact I'm thinking of making it portable if no one complains they want to do it first. All that needs to be done is file structure redone and custom launcher programmed. Other than that it keeps all configuration local with no registry entries (except for the Windows default "Last Run Application" but that happens no matter what.
Somebody's delusional. I'm not going to say who but I think they know who they are ;),

A Portable Blender, that could be interesting.

Quote: 'It didn't ask me for info at all.' Nobody mentioned that Blender required that in this thread. That relates to Maya PLE for which the thread is actually regarding.

I thought he was talking about the Blender software. I was mistaken. BTW thanks for the links which led me to http://www.tanisthalon-vizualized.net/downloads/.
I really enjoy WINK. Its been a while since I've seen it around. I thought the project was completely discontinued.
