I was just wondering if there has been a version of Firefox Portable that has been made to store temporary files in the system and deletes them (securely by overwriting) after using
I've been using Opera Portable (http://kejut.com/operaportable) which does just that. Before loading the browser, it sort of extracts the settings stored (like bookmarks, widgets, history, session, etc.) and loads it and once you end your session, it deletes it (overwriting and deleting for security). Because of this, the browser isn't sluggish during the session.
I was just wondering if there is a version like that for Firefox because I think the Firefox Portable now writes on the disk as you use it and I'm kinda concerned about that. I'm worried about my USB device's lifespan and it gets slow most of the time. I was also wondering if there was something like that packaged into one .exe file like Opera Portable by kejut. Thanks!

What are the widgets and does FireFox have something comparable? Is it the equivalent of plugins or addons?

I can't speak for everyone else, but FFP program loads pretty fast for me, either w/ my T1 at work or my dialup at home. I can't imagine what would be making it sluggish at any point from start to finish besides the connection speed and the code bloat of any particular website upon the computer I am using.
From what you are describing, it seems to put the slowdown (however slower) in the startup and in the ending, which to me is at the worst point. I want it to open up right away, and I want it to end right away.
If I am reading what you are describing wrong, let me know, of course, I understand "slow" is relative.

you can set firefox to runlocally which is in the ini for the config for firefox portable
it should be in the
FireFoxPortable

in it there is a command called
runlocally=false make it this
runlocally=true
Edit:read the readme first it explains everything its in the same folder

If I understand the readme file correctly, setting the runlocally option to "true" will only copy the profile and software FROM the drive to the temp directory, but won't save changes back to the drive. I don't know if that's the full solution in this case, though I can see the potential uses - especially as mentioned with a FF Live CD.
