I tried running

QemuPDL1.1.0.exe

and got errors - my Windows2000 refuses to run this exe file.

I extracted the files with 7-zip and copied them to the flash drive.

It Seems to be working, but I have to keep working on it

Source?

Is the source code for the launcher included? Only projects under an OSI approved license can be promoted here.

the driver

is only needed in vista, the thing in xp that it request to install is the Qemu Accelerator (which is helpful...but not portable... Sad wish it was though).

passwords for pendrivelinux

are:

Login and passwords:

User: root - password: root

User: guest - password: guest

so you have to give in "root" when it asks for the pass like in your picture,...
see also the Pendrivelinux tutorial.

Easier Way

There's an easier way to get linux on your flashdrive.

Just go to;
www.slax.org
and you can download a version of slackware that comes with KDE and can be installed onto a flash drive as a bootable system.
Its a 190 Mb download which is quite a bit smaller than the >300 Mb Qemm file.

..

Yes but it's not quite the same as the method
suggested by Tristiano77 doesn't require you to re-boot
the machine and doesn't require a BIOS that supports
booting from a UFD .

QemuPDL alternative download location

I too had problems running the QemuPDL1.1.0.exe installer downloaded from sourceforge. An alternative location from where the installer can be downloaded is:
http://www.mirrorservice.org/sites/download.sourceforge.net/pub/sourcefo...

MD5: 7d3297109f81765dbaadad1ae69c6603 QemuPDL1.1.0.exe

I couldn't find a md5 checksum to validate this download thought. Could someone else, that downloaded this installer from somewhere else, confirm this md5 checksum, please! Thanks!

BTW, installation instructions, and a Video of QemuPDL running from Windows, can be found here:

Best USB distro - 200mb with KDE based on slax i think, has almost everything and the latest RC has a USB installer.

Obviously you have to boot off it though.

Launcher Didn't Work

I installed QemuPDL per your instructions and then intalled the launcher in the QemuPDL directory.
"Launching the launcher" gave me a KQemu install window which I followed along with. KQemu wanted to install on my C: drive and I directed it to my flashdrive. The installation came back with the following;

Output folder: G:\PortableApps\QemuPDL\qemu\Kqemu
Skipped: LICENSE
Skipped: COPYING
Skipped: kqemu-doc.html
Skipped: kqemu-tech.html
Output folder: C:\WINDOWS\System32\drivers
Skipped: kqemu.sys
Output folder: G:\PortableApps\QemuPDL\qemu\Kqemu
Skipped: kqemu.nsi
Output folder: C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Start Menu\Programs
Create folder: C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Start Menu\Programs\Kqemu
Create shortcut: C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Start Menu\Programs\Kqemu\Website.lnk
Create shortcut: C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Start Menu\Programs\Kqemu\kqemu-doc.lnk
Create shortcut: C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Start Menu\Programs\Kqemu\kqemu-tech.lnk
Create shortcut: C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Start Menu\Programs\Kqemu\Uninstall.lnk
snSCM::Install : error
nsSCM::Start : error
Created uninstaller: G:\PortableApps\QemuPDL\qemu\Kqemu\uninst.exe
Completed

You'll notice that even when I pointed it to my flashdrive it still went to the C drive for part of the installation. The interesting(?) thing is that the files installed in the Start menu still point back to the flashdrive. You need to fix this in the KQemu install for it to be a true portable application.

Other than that, once launched it ran fine.

The KQEMU Accelerator

The K[ernel]QEMU Accelerator is an optional device driver that improves the performance of the guest system running, when running on the host system, an must be installed on the host system (non-portable). Therefore QemuPDL offers to install KQEMU on the host system whenever it's launched - if it doesn't detect an already installed KQEMU on the host system. You don't need to install KQEMU to run QemuPDL. Just click "Cancel" (if you do not want to install the accelerator) and QemuPDL will proceed - so it is truly portable already (if you don't require the turbo engine - which comes at a higher cost Wink ).

slax on quemu

slax can be run sure in quemu and booted from usb, it depends on how you want use it.
The quemu thing might be quite slow as you will see with all the ather distros and usefull only for very small systems like DSL.
Slax would be better run from boot, unless you make up an distro very small with no gui etc.

Can't resize linux window.

How can i re-size the main Linux window. i have a 15in monitor so have it set to 800 x 600 so i can see things easily, so i have to manually move the window to see it all. the only way i can seem to get the Linux window to fit, and not be huge. ,is to set the screen size to 1024 x 768 makes things too small, unless i had a bigger screen.

so can you help me at all as i cannot see all the screen at once i cant see everything in the menus. maybe that's it.

Any help would be good
