It would be nice to see a start button right over the main start button to open the menu. I know Smithtech's menu does that but I'm using geek.menu right now. I'm asking for a menu add-on that'll make a start button. Kinda like U3's Start button. Yes, I searched the topic.
You are here
Start Button
use A-Suite to create a temp shortcut for the launcher on the desktop, then I take the icon and put it near the start button. It should work. When you close A-Suite the shortcut will dissapear. Change the autorun to launch A-Suite first and your good to go!
Instant "PAM Start Button"!
That doesn't make sense.
essentially make a shortcut on your desktop for A-suite and then when you click on it it will open a-suite.
does tat make more sense?
not really
not really
I think he wants it so clicking the start button will open the geek.menu.
AFAIK there is no way to do it with the geek menu.
There is a way, but...
The only way to do it would be for the author of geek menu to add the code.
Currently, there's no way to do it.
If he adds the code then yes. But with 1.0 and the newest test release, it doesn't do it.
as long as the drive letter is the same a shortcut will work
tat is what i meant

i am interested
and if u need an icon...
lol
im working on it, should be done today, its pretty simple. it has a minor flaw. the taskbar has to be on the bottom of your screen and the default height. yes i would like an icon :P, currently im working on trying to figure out the ascii charicter of the win key :S need that.
I'm interested aswell, the computers I work on have a "locked down" taskbar and no ions are there for me to click.
This app opens a floating menu that is highly configurable.
It uses relative paths, and can be set to be any size; you can also set a background and custom icons.
I actually use it to be as large as the desktop (works like a desktop replacement), but for this indication, you could make it about as big as PAM and add shortcuts to both apps and the document folders that PAM uses.
Setup is pretty easy, too. You can drag your PA shortcuts right onto the toolbox.
So, once it is running, you can ALT+TAB to switch to it, no need for a taskbar icon. However, if your taskbar is not locked down, it does have an icon you can use.
It's a pretty good contingency replacement for PAM on those locked-down systems.

if i read this right you are to lazy to click the pa tray icon so you want the cruzer desktop icon? kinda like this? (sorry about the crappyness, i whipped it up in paint in like 3 seconds.)
Just out of curiosity, if I read you right, would you say that people who use the PAM/PAP are "too lazy" to launch the individual apps manually?
Tim
was that people wanted a desktop shortcut to enter/pop up the PAM, not the individual applications.
"use A-Suite to create a temp shortcut for the launcher on the desktop, then I take the icon and put it near the start button. It should work. When you close A-Suite the shortcut will dissapear. Change the autorun to launch A-Suite first and your good to go!
Instant "PAM Start Button"!"
This is what I said before... Here are exact steps to do this. (WARNING: I am using the latest alpha version of ASuite)
1. Download ASuite from here: http://sourceforge.net/projects/asuite/
2. Install it to the PortableApps directory/folder.
3. Change the open line of the ini file on the base of the drive to
open=PortableApps\ASuite\ASuite.exe
4. Run ASuite.
5. Click edit.
6. Click add software.
7. Change the name to the software you want (a.i. geek.Menu) and hit the browse button.
8. go to the directory/folder where your program you want a shortcut for is. select the program.
9.1. Click the advanced tab.
9.2. If you wish, change the Autoexecute function to Always on startup.
10. click the "create shortcut on desktop when ASuite is running" box
11. click ok
12. move the shortcut to where you want it.
13. You have a "start" button for your menu.
If anything is confusing about my solution, please tell me and I will try to explain it.
basically what i said with the icon but put the icon above the start button.
You can even swich the icon to your cruzer icon, this is just an in depth method of doing that.
i did it, https://portableapps.com/node/10323
You could also use Toolbox to make a single icon toolbox, that stays on top, and links to ..\PortableAppsMenu\PortableAppsMenu.exe.
This allows you to "dock" it just above the start menu, add whatever icon you want, and put configurable text, including font (although you should choose a common one).
Here's a screenshot, showing it in 3 different styles:
