This is the begining of a portable media player based around winamp in response to the need for some suggestions topic began by Mark.
https://portableapps.com/node/1340. If there are any plugins or skins that you think would work better or are missing please comment.
Features:
Interface similar to WMP9,
Portable player support
Mp3, Ogg, Itunes and WMA support as well as FLAC.
Some video formats are supported, right now there is dvd playback throught the mplayer plugin but it is quite shaky
Update: Eliminated Video Flashing during DVD Playback, however only can play 1436 of dvd.
Upadate:Just informed that it would be most unwise to distribute portable winamp if I enjoy freedom from litigation. Ill post a guide in a bit.
If you have changes or plugins or fixes please submit them to mweaver@medaille.edu
Please be aware that Winamp, although free, is distributed with a commercial license and may not be redistributed in modified form without the express written consent of Nullsoft/AOL.
Sometimes, the impossible can become possible, if you're awesome!
Dully noted, the release has been taken down
Didn't wanna see you have AOL after you or anything.

I read your comments on the move to a portable songbird, it seems more open than Winamp with the exception of its trademarks, are you any aware of issue regarding hacking these trademarked issues out using ResHack before I begin?
I already emailed the Songbird guys and they were interested in a portable version. But more in conjunction with 0.2 or 1.0. 0.1 is more a pre-pre release.

@mdweaver: Would you like to help me? Also, do you use Jabber? If you do, add me to your buddy list: nm35@portasoft.org

I'd love to help out I'm not much of a coder and am green when it comes to NSIS but I should be able to come up to speed quickly. I added you in jabber. Thanks.
Winamp Lite, also known as Winamp Classic, is readily portable.

It was quite easy, It didnt have the media library. I have it ready with some dvd support but John let me know about AOLs redistribution restrictions so I pulled it.
Redistribute the launcher, and have a tutorial.

It doesnt need a launcher, it only needed skins, and the right plugins to fill the needs listed by NM
I love winamp, but if it cant be distributed, maybe someone can create a good portable variation of foobar that looks and feels like winamp.
I am stressed out at the moment and only have small knowledge about foobar's plugin functionality, but I would love to participate in portable foobar's development in future.
so long
Foobar doesnt really meet enough of these requirements winamp got quite close. Im researching to see if their is something else out there that might work. It would be a plus if it supported winamp plugins.
supports CDDB lookup, ripping from CD, burning to CD, visualizations, and a library. I'd like it to be able to play video and sound files (i.e., DVD (.vob), mp3, WMA, m4a (AAC)). The important thing is ease of use. I like the iTunes/WiMP interface, and I don't want something that looks like Winamp or any other "compact" media players.
Could you e-mail me a copy so I can have a look? Thanks.
