Portable apps do not install

I downloaded and installed the Standard Suite. It installed perfectly on a freshly formatted drive. Then I started download more apps like 7zip, Eraser, Keepass, etc. I put them on the root of the jump drive, then went to the PA.com menu and told it to install each of them. A dos screen comes up for a fraction of a second, then nothing else happens. Period. I have told it to install, gone out for dinner, and come back to find nothing added to my menu. Obviously something isn't working right. I have tried each program (and tried freshly re-Dling them from this website) with no success. I also tried installing them from my hard drive onto the jump. Anyone else with this problem? Help?

My jump is a 1GB kingston with 660mb currently free.
I am running a dell inspiron laptop with Vista Home Premium.

corrupt

A command window will come up when you attempt to run any corrupted Windows EXE. Redownload them. And it's best to download locally and then run instead of to the drive. Most drives choke when downloading large files to them.

That's the only reply I see

That's the only reply I see on this forum - redownload. This is why I specified in my submission that I already have redownloaded them - twice each.

Questions

What are the sizes of the apps in question?
Compare to the indicated size on the app page.

Did you left [main] click on the app at this site and then get taken to the Sourceforge download page for the download or did you do a right click save as ...?

Each 22kb. I downloaded them

Each 22kb. I downloaded them right through this site. Click on 7zip portable and click download now. That's what I was using.

So you're saying that all 3

So you're saying that all 3 files are corrupt? Plus, where am I supposed to find another mirror? I have looked at 2 sites but they have exe files and not the .paf that portable apps needs.

22kb is the wrong size

Something is messed up somewhere.

Do you have javascript turned off by some chance? SourceForge has an Ajax thingy on the download page, maybe that is the problem.

On the SourceForge download page, where it says "your download should begin shortly", do you just let it go? Did you try the bit where it says "if you are experiencing problems with the download please use this direct link"?

Just below that, there is the icon of the SourceForge mirror you are using. Below that is another little link that says "Select a different mirror?". That's where you select a different mirror. If you have javascript enabled, it gray's the page and lets you choose a different mirror.

I think you said you re-downloaded things, but to your USB drive. One of the suggestions was that you re-download to your local drive (e.g. your desktop). That's not just telling you to do the same thing yet again and expect a different outcome; downloading to C: is different from downloading to a USB drive. (Shouldn't be, but sometimes is.)

The PA installer is actually ".paf.exe". So, in particular, it is an .exe as well. That may seem obvious to you, but I can't tell, so I'm stating the obvious.

If you look at the Download Now button, you'll see that it states the size of the file. 7zip, for example, is 1.1MB. If you download it and the result is 22KB, you don't need to try to execute it; it's not the right size.

If you are right clicking on the "Download Now" button, it won't work; you need to follow that link to the SourceForge download page, where it will start downloading automatically. If you need to download it directly (I personally hate the things that start automatically, so I've done this), look for the "use this direct" link and right click on that. You could (for example) copy the "direct link" and use the result of that with WGET.

Good luck!

I just got back from church

I just got back from church so forgive the delay.

I asked if you were "right clicking" on the link to download. You did not really answer that question.

As someone further down mentioned, and I was going to say if you said that you were, "Don't do that!!" It will not work.

That was the reason I asked about the file sizes. I had the same thing happen to me a long time ago.

If you are not being taken to the sourceforge download site when you left [main] click something weird is going on.

Don't Right-Click

You'll notice that the links to download the apps are all redirectors (as are all SourceForge links). You're right-clicking and downloading the HTML redirector page. Left-click and wait for it to download itself.
