First off: I LOVE Thunderbird Portable. It's the first email client that works the way I want it to. And I get to carry my mail around on my Cruzer drive.
I have downloaded all of my received messages from Embarqmail.
Is there a way to download my sent messages?

Well, if Embarqmail allows IMAP, they should be right there -- open your inbox folder. (Of course you have to tell Thunderbird to use IMAP, not POP.)
If Embarqmail is one of the old-fashioned mail services that doesn't understand IMAP, you might have to play some games with it. For example, if you can see your sent messages in the web mail, you might be able to move your sent messages into your Inbox using web mail, then have Thunderbird download all the messages in your inbox. It should be easy then to do a Search on all the messages with you as the "From" and move them into Sent in local folders.

Since this is a one-time problem I didn't even bother to see if EmbarqMail would do IMAP. I just went into webmail and moved the SENT messages to the INBOX as you suggested.
I had already decided to store sent messages in the same local folders with received messages. I've added TO options to my filters to sort my own messages from either the in-box or the sent folder to the local folders.

I don't know if this helps, but, when I'm not connected to the Internet through my ISP, I can download my POP3 messages, but can't send messages. At that point I have to go to my ISP's website, log on to my e-mail there, and send the messages from their website.
Normally I just blind copy any message I send back to myself, but this doesn't help me if I've blind-copied others and need a record of having sent the e-mail to blind-copied recipients (eg, students in my statistics class -- I've got to use Bcc so they don't see one-another's e-mail addresses).
In the Bcc instance, when I get home, I go back to my ISP, log on, go to the ISP's SENT folder, and click on all the messages I've sent that day that I want to save (ie, all the messages sent to Bcc recipients). Once I've clicked on those messages, I forward them back to myself in a single e-mail message.
When I receive the e-mail in TBP, I export the attached e-mails (right-click on one of the messages, and choose the "SAVE All" option) to save them to a folder. Since my ISP calls them .msg, I globally rename them as .eml, because the TBP import plug-in (see next paragraph) only imports .eml files. (see http://www.publicware.dk/EN/FileRenamer/ for a wonderful -- free -- file renamer. Get version 2.0 if you want to use it on your flash drive, though. The new version has to be installed.)
Then I go back to TBP, open the Sent folder, and use a plug-in [Plug-in: ImportExportTools (Mboximport enhanced 1.5) see https://nic-nac-project.de/~kaosmos/mboximport-en.html] to import the .eml files into TBP. This works great -- and I have a record of everyone to whom I sent the e-mails -- whether as To: CC: or BCC:.
