Greetings,
I really like pidgin portable and realize that I can upgrade my portable installation by running the upgrade from pidgin. However, when I do I no longer have a portable version as it looks for files on the C drive, starts to leave files in my profile. I have tried a couple of times to upgrade this way but each time I end up rolling back to the backup.
So I have 2 questions:
1. what am I doing wrong?
2. will there be a portable update for pidgin 2.3?
Thanks!

I don't know about your 1st question...
But about your second question, "It'll be done when it's done™"
What you describe is the way one would expect it to work. Some of the Portable apps are set so that they'll intercept the update function and make it work right, while others say "wait for the update from the PA web site".
If there is nothing on the Pidgin Portable page about automatically updating, I'd avoid it. (It says to install the latest PidginPortable over the top of the older version, but nothing about auto update, so I'd avoid it.)
If you are adventurous, you could do an install of the latest version and then compare the files in the program directory with those in \PortableApps\PidginPortable\App\Pidgin and see what happens if you copy the new files over the old ones. When done, uninstall the "real" version. If it fails, just delete that directory and reinstall the PidginPortable.
Or you could wait for the Pidgin update to become a Pidgin Portable update. If there's a problem with that, at least ask about it here before installing the non-Portable update. Yes there will be a Portable update. It will be ready when it is ready.

right now the only way to update ANY App here is to wait for a new portable version.
