Portable apps - to - packagefactory - to U3

Hopefully I am not rehashing something but i did do a few forum searches on this already...

Which protables apps are actually faster U3 or PA...

And, I took the PA version of firefox and put it thru package factory then installed it on U3 because I did not want to lose all the bookmarks and settings I already had on my PA firefox, but wanted to see how this would work...problem is I can't tell at this point if its faster or slower, but it does work.

What could be the ramifications of this?

u3 is what is already on my usb and I like it but if I am going to lose all my settings on my PA software, AND u3's portable apps are slower because of how they are packaged...then why not do it this way? Package the PA apps for the use on u3 without losing any of your present settings?

U3 is

going to be outdated soon, as Microsoft is working on a shiny new version.

Stick with PA

Neither

I've used both the PortableApps.com and the PortableApps.com4U3 version [you did know that they were both made by John in the beginning don't you Smile ] of FF and TB and really never really saw any difference in speed.

I run the current PortableApps.com version on my U3 drive and have no problem with it whatsoever. I don't have a shortcut on the U3LaunchPad and I don't need one.

I think people put way too much into menus myself. Use U3 for locking the drive and for U3 only programs. Use portable apps for everything else.

By the way, your U3 drive will continue to work perfectly fine after the release of the Sandisk/Microsoft platform late next year Smile

U3/PortableApps/PStart/whatever, use them all Smile
They play nice together for me.

Things have got to get better, they can't get worse, or can they?

Ok

Yep I did at least know they were both made by John in the beginning, and after some further research I used the shortcut creator on smithtech to use all the portable apps from PA in my U3 launcher precisely because I like one menu, the 'lock', and the mcafee for usb that came with it.

I do think however, after using the shortcut program to launch PA apps from the u3 launcher that it does run a tad faster than the u3 apps from the u3 launcher...

BUT THAT MAY ALL BE IN MY HEAD!

But I do like being able to look at my software (IE PA) instead of a bunch of number and such with u3.

Well,

"Locking" the drive. Wink

OpenOffice

OOoP4U3 doesn't work on U3. It can't find soffice.exe
