I cannot delete message received on my U3 Key

I cannot delete message received with Thunderbird installed on my 4GB Cruzer U3 USB Key. When I try to delete a message I receive the following Alert:

The messages could not be moved or copied to folder ‘Trash’ because writing to folder failed. To gain disk space, from the File menu, first choose Empty Trah, and then choose Compact Folders, and then try again.

I have a lot of space on disk and an Empty Trash and I compact my folders every day
All Thunderbird’s I use on my PC & NB work fine but not on my U3 Key!
Any idea?

Clarification

Please clarify,

Are you using the "ThunderBird4U3",
Or are you using "ThunderBird Portable" from this site on a U3 drive?

If you are using the ThunderBird Portable from this site that fact that you are using a U3 drive is unimportant. If you are using the U3 version of TB I'm not sure if John is supporting it beyond recommending switching to the newest version from this site.

So, which are you using?

Tim

Hi Tim, I loaded the file

Hi Tim,
I loaded the file from the U3 software download center. The name is:
Mozilla Thunderbird for U3 version 1.5.0.14 (20071210)
Shall I download it again and from which site?
Thank you for your help.

Yep.

That version isn't developed by PortableApps.com and is out of date. The latest portable version is available from the sidebar (look left) under "Mozilla Thunderbird, Portable Edition". This version is not just for U3, it is for any type of drive. For this reason, it won't appear in your U3 menu. There are tools available on these forums (however, none are officially supported) to do that.

Actually

Actually Ryan I believe that version was developed by John Blum

Mozilla Thunderbird for U3 (PortableApps.com)
http://software.u3.com/Product_Details.aspx?ProductId=196&Selection=6&La...

and as such we should provide an upgrade/transition path to the Current PA.com Only version.

I posted a request to John suggesting documentation for people using the Older (U3 versions of PFF4U3 and PTB4U3) versions to the new versions.
He never replied Sad

I know it's basically copying over the profile but since they are several versions behind the current version, and U3 has it's own folder structure, I think some documentation is needed.

{Clarification,

Johns version at the U3 site it 1.5.0.42
I assume the .42 is some sort of internal code for U3 or for John as there is no Mozilla Thunderbird 1.5.0.42

Since the OP says he is using 1.5.0.14
and
The U3 site is not showing a 1.5.0.14
I am thinking he downloaded Johns version from the site and allowed self update to bring it to .14

I would still say this is Johns work in that the "portableization" has not changed from Johns work, just the internal program has updated. }

Well...

The launchers were originally based on his code and they updated them as far as I know. However this may be Firefox for U3 only. If so, carry on Blum
