Actually there are two laptops I want to figure out: one corporate issued win xp dell latitude d620 and my friend's hp pavilion with vista premium.

Windows xp is the one I know of how to do it, I don't know about vista and really don't wanna know considering Vista to me is a big Joke played on us before april fools, before windows boot press and hold F12, I think, can't remember either way it will bring up a screen asking what mode you want to boot into, select safe mode and you can change the password to whatever you want

Sorry if i'm wrong but i'm fairly sure you have to hold the F8 key.
And if i'm not mistaking you can't really "reset" the password but you can only delete the account. I could be wrong though.

It depends on what computer you are using. Some computers use the delete key, some the F#'s and some even use letter combos. And yes Pieter you can delete the user but you can also change the password by typing
C:blah/blah/blah>net user [user name here] *
Password:
Retype Password:
Release Team Member

I'm studying Environmental Engineering.

I would have to agree about matrices though, the only thing I have ever done with them was to teach myself how to invert them (long story) and that was hardly a laugh a minute!

And you're right, math isn't boring, Inorganic Chemistry is worse! :lol:

Well, this got off-topic REALLY fast.
I don't really have any new years resolutions, I'll just continue doing what I do and try to be better at it. (BTW, what I do is LEARN, I try to learn as much as I can about anything.)
Although, if I put more thought into it, I would like to start up something in my city (Ciudad Juarez, Mexico - across the river from El Paso, Texas, USA) to help those who are "technologically handicapped". What I'm thinking of is accepting old, beat-up computers, tweak with them a bit, make sure they're running ok, installing linux and giving them to those in need. Any comments that could help me get started will really be appreciated.

with OLPC I have 3 options: I pay for the laptops (which I can't do), I convince others to buy those laptops and donate them or I convince my local/state/federal government to buy them and give them to the needy. either way it's pricey. That's why I'm wanting what others don't want anymore. This way nobody needs to pay any money. Also, for those of you who want to help promote Open Source Software, check out The Freedom Toaster. It's another thing I would like to do.

Point taken. But you might as well sell the pc parts you get and donate them, or maybe make them something amazing and get money to donate from that. Computers get outdated very easily.

I think it is a great idea. I offer "Free Computer Recycling" in my area. People bring me their old PCs, or I pick them up. Anything that can not be reused gets taken to a proper recycling center (for electronics). Anything that can be reused goes into rebuilt PCs for others. I encourage you to keep thinking like that.
BTW - The "Freedom Toaster" is awesome!
