I'm using WinXP Pro, and Firefox 2.0.0.11. I came across Firefox Portable 3.0 Beta 2 and decided to try it out. I have a USB flash drive, but one of the "how to"'s showed how one could actually install it on your hard drive in a seperate folder and, if you wanted to use both versions, to adjust the INI file to allow multiple sessions. That didn't actually work, but I could play with version 3 anyway on its own.
The problem immediately arose with a site I regularly access to play Sudoku...even after deleting the folder I installed the version 3 Beta2 to, I get the following error message:

* Go to Microsoft Product Support Services and perform a title search for the words HTTP and 401.
* Open IIS Help, which is accessible in IIS Manager (inetmgr), and search for topics titled About Security, Authentication, and About Custom Error Messages.

Since my version of XP did not have IIS Manager installed, I found it and installed it, but the website is not listed as it is supposed to according to the Support Services information ( http://support.microsoft.com/kb/253667/en-us ), so I cannot make the adjustment necessary to fix the problem.
This problem obviously arose due to a conflict or something or a setting made somewhere by the Portable Beta version...now I have no way of knowing where to even look to fix it. Is there anyone who has run into this problem and been able to figure out what to do?????????

Perhaps I missed something but why do you think it's obviously due to the "Portable" Beta and not the FF3 Beta itself?

I never installed the regular FF3 Beta...I didn't even know there was one until I looked into it after I tried the Portable version and ran into this problem. I imagine this may not have happened had I installed it on my USB device instead of my secondary harddrive, but I took the usage comment I found about being able to test it on my internal drive at its word.
The other reason is that I've used this Sudoku site for over a year, up to this morning, with no problems at all until I launched the Portable Beta FF3.
I have deleted the folder I installed the Port. Beta into, and just tried the Sudoku site again and got a different error...the drive I had installed it on was D:>...the Firefox I'm using is on C:>...
I have no idea how to interpret this, but it looks like it's now trying to find the site link where I had the beta version installed on drive D:>...

I'm sorry for the confusion. What I meant was that it may have been a bug/problem/flaw within FF3Beta which is INSIDE of FF3Beta Portable. That is, FF3Beta might be problematic, which being beta is not unheard of. If this is the case you might be able to find out more information from a Mozilla Firefox site, or one deals with this beta version.
At this point I need to shut up as I don't have anything else of use to say.

You're one of the nicest newcomers I've seen around here in a while.
IIS is a server (Internet Information Services). This means it's on their end. It says it's not sending a WWW-Authenticate header properly, but I doubt that. More likely is that they are running an older version of IIS.
In any case, it's nothing the portable version could interfere with, so report it over on the MozillaZine forums.

An IIS error denotes a server issue. Most likely, they've either specifically blocked Firefox 3 or their software is incompatible.
