Menu Doesn't Launch under WinPE 2.0

I noticed the PortableApps menu doesn't launch under WinPE 2.0 (Vista kernel) from my UFD (USB Flash Drive). All the Portable Applications run fine, though, just the menu doesn't work. Is it because the Portable Apps Menu program depends on a Taskbar/Start-Menu, which WinPE does not have?

I'll use the portable apps as part of a windows deployment / disaster recovery scenario, but I just won't be using the Portable Apps Menu.

Is this a known issue with Portable Apps Menu?

WinPE?

I may have an answer but you need clarify what You mean by Windows PE (Vista Kernel) as opposed to what I/we might think you mean by Windows PE and how you would be using the PAM in such a situation.

More information is always better than almost none.

PAs programs only work under Windows 95-Vista, when You say Windows PE (Vista Kernel) what do You mean?

and
"will use the portable apps as part of a windows deployment / disaster recovery scenario, but I just won't be using the Portable Apps Menu"

If you wont be using the PAM I'm not sure what your difficulty is.

As the PAM is a menu accessed thru the task bar, yes the task bar, as part of Windows from 95-Vista could be expected to be there.

"Is this a known issue with Portable Apps Menu?"
I would say yes and no. Yes, it is known, No it is not an issue, as Recovery/Installation Environments are not standard Windows 95-Vista environments. In fact I would not think of them as installations in the standard use use of the term.

WinPE 2.0

WinPE 2.0 is the successor to WinPE 2005. It is basically a cut-down version of Vista whereas 2005 was a cut-down version of XP/2003.

As to why the menu doesn't work it's hard to say without a thorough check of the source but I would imagine icemannd is probably correct and there is no error checking on trying to populate the tray icon without explorer running.

Yes Known issue

Yes thats a known issue as the PortableApps menu doesn't work on Preinstallation Environments like WinPE or BartPE.

... but an issue with some solutions...

... cause the menu works fine if the Windows XPE v1.0.7 Plugin for BartPE is installed.

It will be work with all PE Environments with an Systray, if the used shell is the explorer or something with a compatible Systray.

But there a lot of different versions, mods an do so on ... i think this should be discussed on the forums of the PE systems.

WinPE 2.0 is 64 bit only

Hello,

problem is WinPE 2.0 is only 64 bit OS.

Question is: Can you compile PAM for 64 bit OS?

Thank you for answer Filip Hasa

PE 2.0 is NOT 64-bit. The

PE 2.0 is NOT 64-bit.

The problem with launching the menu in any Windows PE environment is that the menu looks for the system tray and loads an icon into it for the menu. If it is not there it can't go any further and errors out.

Windows PE 2.0 and Windows PE 2.1

So there is no way to trick the PortableApps menu to work in the 32bit Windows PE 2.0/1 environment?

I would REALLY love to use the PortableApps menu system in my preinstallation environment somehow. Besides using all the pre-packaged applications, I would write custom packages for some of my work tools. This way my command-line-impaired co-workers could actually get stuff done in PE.

Read above

use WinXPE plugin and a shell with a systray.
There are a lot of Plugins for nearly every PE environment...
