Yeah I made a portable version of Regshot in bout 30 mins. I know Regshot is already portable but I threw this together to make it paf compatible + to make it fully compatible with the PortableApps Backup Utility (to make Regshot compatible with the App Data option.). The launcher is based off of John's Mine-Perfect Portable Launcher and this is packaged with a PortableApps Installer.
If you were wondering what Regshot is it is a utility that takes a snapshot of the registry (looks for changes between the 2 snapshots) and compares the snapshots, making Regshot a great utility for developers of portable applications.
Regshot Portable Beta2: https://downloads.sourceforge.net/armogohmasuites/RegshotPortable-1.81.p...
(May take a few mins to hit all servers)
Also on my downloads page there is the .nsi of the launcher.
BTW Tell me what you think of the installer bitmap, NeoRame made it (Thanks NeoRame).
Beta2:
The Launcher now saves the regshot.ini (contains the settings) to the data folder, when Regshot Portable is launched it is moved back to the App/regshot folder, and when it closes it is moved to the Data folder.
Also I cannot make it so that the output is saved in the Data folder since Regshot uses drive letters in its paths.
As I said, you can't use the PortableApps.com installer image, it's TradeMarked, Copyrighted, or whatever.
As well, it's best not to have spaces in directory names, also, your RegShotPortable.ini file is for RapidSVN. Also, the website at the top of the launcher is for FileZilla. Also, the launcher looks for the INI Properties of the RapidSVN INI, and the RapidSVN INI is full of parameters, whereas the launcher only reads for the splash screen. The actual .exe {NAME} parameter shouldn't have a space.
I'd mainly change the installer image first, otherwise it works good. Except you didn't use fresh settings, my out path is,
C:\DOCUME~1\spanek\LOCALS~1\Temp\
, Steven. And actually, I wouldn't even have the out path set to there, I'de have the launcher write it to the Data folder or something, but I guess it doesn't matter too much.______________________

But what will I use? I have no artist. This is what I hate, open source apps being tied with TMed artwork. I have no Photoshop. Maybe I will find an artist. I am fizing these as we speak.

There are plenty of bmp images for the installer in the NSIS package, unfortunately I cannot remember which as I am at work at the moment.
Also search through the NSIS forums as there are free ones there by Joe Public!

It's quite simple to have the launcher to write out the paths to the Data directory in the INI, I can do it if you want.

Can you say more about this? If you are talking about OutDir= in regshot's ini file, why can't you just read that line, check to see if it has the current portable drive letter in it, and if not, fix it? Portable Putty does something like that with its RND file.
The question might be what happens if the user sets the outdir manually to a path on the hard drive, do you try to preserve that or just reset it to the portable drive?
I suppose one approach would be to wait on program close until regshot's ini file is written, then go into the ini file and mark it in a way that the program can recognize it when it starts, like: on close "if the drive letter in Outdir= corresponds to this portable drive, remove it" and on starting "if the Outdir doesn't have a drive letter, substitute the current portable drive's letter." On start, if it has a drive letter (e.g. C:\temp) leave it alone; if it doesn't have a drive letter (e.g. Outdir=\Documents\Regshot) put one in. That way the user's prefs might be accommodated to a certain extent.
Maybe you've already tried something like that?
MC
Do you mind if I modify yours a bit so it takes care of the changing drive letters?

DO NOT TOUCH. PATRICK IS DOING THIS APP! lol
The developer formerly known as ZGitRDun8705
WHERE???
Nothing against Patrick but he has like thousand apps where he said: "I'LL DO IT!"
And even if: NO ONE CAN STOP ME.
AND SHOULDN'T WE STOP YELLING?
"What about Love?" - "Overrated. Biochemically no different than eating large quantities of chocolate." - Al Pacino in The Devils Advocate
sure, i'll stop yelling, and i dont know if he actually made this one official yet lol, but he's been planning it for quite some time. Last i heard, it was completely finished, he was just waiting for me to create an icon that was less ugly.

@Patrick:
Are you still doing it?

Like yes. Like I release tonight kinda yes.
So you're augmenting Johns "release wave" ?

RegShot had an update today too, it looks.
P.S. What others apps I have I said I was going to do, I know there may be many, and I wanna get on top of them. I have Deluge done, and handyandy164 is testing an alpha, do you remember any others?

Okay, after RegShot.
I cant give you a list. Its more of a general feeling I have that you said yes to alot o things. I could use the search though. But no offence, maybe I am wrong.
EDIT
Looks like Oliver was faster than me.
(maybe we just leave this the way it is and people will post reminders ;)...)

Looks like the RegShot update is now limited to registry only, not folders, and i like the old version better, it seems more intuitive.
The developer formerly known as ZGitRDun8705
I'll package both and see which we like better.
The website for the new one is somewhat inaccessible, and after translating from russian to english via babelfish, it appears to be a rather crude site...there's one of those "warning this site has explicit content" type messages on it, the site is in russian only, and even after translating, its extremely hard to navigate.
I may take the time to learn wxWidgets, and try to follow the code for the previous version of RegShot, and eventually rewrite it so it works more like InstallRite or similar programs that monitor installations.

I'll try to see what I can do about that, and get it up.
Sorry for the delay, Roger.
iT TECHNICALLY IS PORTABLE. jUST COPY THE FOLDERS. (i THINK). iT IS SOMEWHAT IN THE PAF FORMAT BECAUSE IT JUST SHOWS ONE PROGRAM.
(sORRY, THE CAPS LOCK IS ON, IT'S STUCK BECAUSE OF SOME ACCESSIBILITY OPTION I HAVE NO CONTROL OVER)
Insert original signature here with Greasemonkey Script.
Just because it shows one executable doesn't mean it's in the PAF formats. It's not even close.
LOL you clicked CAPS-LOCK. Click it again
I look forward to it

The fact that you didn't tell me isn't that great, as I would have had no problem giving it to you, and I could have helped you avoid the errors you had from the start.
That's why it's best not to hop on a project that quick without throughly testing it yourself.
you dont know how much work on "x app" the person who originally "called" it did.
if you ask i am sure patrick will give it to you (as well as any help that he can)
it also shows that you are mature and are willing to ask for something rather than taking it and acting like a child and saying "since patrick did not do it I will"
now i will get off my soapbox
Please search before posting. ~Thanks
RegShot understands relative paths in the INI. So the output line would be -
OutDir=..\..\Data(\settings)
Just make sure that the correct working directory is set in your launcher. Otherwise RegShot won't find its INI at all actually
I am still working on this project, umm I just do not have time to work on those things right now. You can expect updates on all my projects when I learn NSIS better.
Also you can expect Armogohma Suites v2 (codename: The Egg) as soon as John makes the Papps NSIS installer is usable by non-GPLed projects.
I ran this at home (WinXP Pro SP2), no issues.
I ran this at work (Win2K Pro SP4), issue, didn't launch. Attempted direct access <..> and got Windows Information Popup error.
Application popup: regshot.exe
Unable To Locate DLL : The dynamic link library gdiplus.dll could not be found in the specified path ...
Copied gdiplus.dll from <..>, issue resolved.
Not sure if you can redistribute the dll file or not,,,
/s/ When life turns your dreams to dust, vacuum
it must be a problem on your part since Regshot did not complain on any of the computers I ran it on...
Also if gdiplus.dll was distrubuted with OO.o which is LGPLed then it must me distributable...
Is anyone likely to pick this up? I ask as Regshot is the tool I use to help devs and noticed in the whole time I've been a member at PA.com its not been updated.
