The download is not working

The download is not working for me. Anyone else able to get it?

EDIT: I got it. That damned Sourceforge direct download FF extension always screws me up.

Try this

Copy these files:
* Microsoft.VC80.CRT.manifest
* msvcm80.dll
* msvcm80.dll
* msvcr80.dll

From PortableClamWin\clamwin\bin\Microsoft.VC80.CRT to PortableClamWin\clamwin\bin

(thanks Jacoby for mentioning it)

Or... even better... grab the new Fixed3 release.

I made my own portable

I made my own portable version using a guide i found on the clamwin site (kinda proud that i did it myself Smile ), and it had me copy the file you're looking for with some others:

* Microsoft.VC80.CRT.manifest
* msvcm80.dll
* msvcm80.dll
* msvcr80.dll

I've been using this for a couple of weeks, but am switching to johns, because i trust his coding more than my screwing around with configuration files, and besides, he does good splashscreens! Blum
John hasnt steered me wrong, so ill stick with him.

For reference to the guide i used:

http://www.clamwin.com/content/view/118/89/

so far no trouble, works just like johns, and was easy to do, but i didn't like having to install locally to do it, and have since removed it locally, as it seems to misbehave with panda av. still, works portably tho.

I tested johns and it ran flawless, both today at school and tonight at home. Works on the 4 machines I always use.

Familiar

I'm familiar with the guide, but I wanted to make one that would work out-of-the-box (or self extractor as it were) without anyone have to move files or make config changes.

Glad you like the new release.

yeah, just wish it came out

yeah, just wish it came out sooner heheh. a lot easier to just extract and go. Keep up the good work John! I would have had to shell out a couple thousand bucks for a notebook to have my stuff on everywhere i go if it werent for you! Smile

Yer welcome, that's the goal

You're welcome. That's part of the goal of all of this. Make it easier for people to use technology. Promote some high quality open source apps. Save people some cash. Save people some weight when traveling.

in that, my good sir, you

in that, my good sir, you have definately succeeded. I, and i should think the rest of the community, are eternally grateful to you.

My money is best spent on tuition, not a notebook computer. I aint got enough for both, and barely enough for tuition as it is! Blum

EDIT: And thanks for the latest fix. I'm scanning a school computer right now and it didnt have those pesky files, so naturally I checked here. And i deleted my copy last night.

ClamWin found Virus, Avast 4.6 not ???

Hi, I tried the version0.88.1 and it found 1 virus. But me other av scanner don't find it. Who is wrong and who is right ??

The program needs 1 hour for 1GB and uses around 70 % of my both CPU's.

Shit happens

Well, i can tell you from

Well, i can tell you from experience that avast is Shite. Cruddy scanning engine, replete with false positives, and replete with missing virii.

Switch to AVG Free and rescan. then draw your own conclusions. But from my experience, id trust clamwin.

Virus found in Portable VLC 0.8.4a

Scanning my thumb drive with the Fixed3 relase of Portable Clamwin reported:
"G:\Portable Apps\PortableVLC\vlc\plugins\libmux_ps_plugin.dll: Trojan.Xombe.HTTP.A FOUND"
I consider it highly unlikely that this file is in fact infected. A scan with Symantec Antivirus doesn't turn up anything. Any thoughts? Is this a bug, a definition problem, a corrupted file, or is it in fact a virus?

Known Issue

ClamWin, Avast and Antivir all have false positives in some UPX-compressed files (as with portable apps). I've already submitted a false positive report to the ClamAV team, but it takes a bit for them to fix it.

I remember now

You'd mentioned before that you were holding off on the release because of this issue (and some others). I'd forgotten all of the discussion about false positives. My fault, thanks for clearing that up.
